My Story

Kelly is approximately 3 1/2 years old in these pictures taken June 28, 2008. She is quiet and loving. Kelly is a bit shy at first when she meets someone for the first time, but once she sees that you are not going to hurt her she warms up. Kelly so appreciates and enjoys being with you. She really enjoyed being groomed and given lots of attention when we took these photos of her. Lots of one-on-one time is rare for any animal at LP. Kelly walked well on the leash for us too.

We feel that Kelly would make a wonderful addition to a home that wants a calm and quiet dog. She would be a great companion and soon would become your best friend. Kelly does bark when people come in the yard, so she will let you know when people come around. She has also gotten along with every dog we have kenneled her with, so she would be a great companion to another dog her age as she does like to play.

Kelly was adopted from Lone Pine in July 2005 but was returned to LP in August 2007 because her family is expecting a baby and they feel it will be too much to take care of Kelly now.

Because Kelly is a little shy and is nervous around a lot of noise and activity, we are not sure how well she would do in a home with small children. We have never heard her growl or show any aggression towards anyone or anything. We are just concerned that small children may make her nervous. She is especially shy with men but we have found that if the man takes his hat off, she does much better. Rob, one of our volunteers, spent a lot of time with Kelly when she came back in. She was shy but very loving with him. Kelly never showed any signs of aggression towards anyone, even though she was terrified with all the new people and all of the dogs barking. Not even when we had to push her into her new kennel. She just looked up at us volunteers with those big black sad eyes as if asking...'What is happening to me?' It broke our hearts.

The perfect home for Kelly would be a home without a lot of activity and noise. Her new family would need to be willing to let her have some time to get to know them so that she feels safe. They would need to have a privacy fence as she does climb a chain link of any size.
