Hello! My name is Kamyla! I've been in rescue way too long, I just need someone to love me! I'm currently in Baja, Mexico. But I'm ready to fly to you!!
Foster update 05/26/24 Kamyla continues to prove what a great dog she is. She's been in foster with a 84 year old woman, who adores her and refers to her as "baby girl". Kamyla likes to spend most of her time where ever her foster mom is, inside or out. She loves when company comes over and will take all the pets you have to give. She likes to toss her toys around and bark at passer byers, be it horses, cows or whatever. Kamyla likes going for walks and is good on leash. Kamyla has showed no interest in other dogs or animals while out on walks. There is a little Chihuahua that likes to come out for a visit when she is being walked but seems like she just wants to play. Kamyla is not out looking for trouble and prefers to keep to herself and enjoy her walk. Kamyla also loves going for car rides.
Kamyla was found wandering on the highway in the middle of nowhere. It's obvious she has had many litters of pups. Once safe and sound at the rescue Kamyla was not happy being contained or alone. She is super excited when the volunteers get her out. Kamyla enjoys going for walks and does well on leash. She likes to hang out inside being a couch potato or just hanging out in the yard.
09/11/23: Foster update: Kamyla continues to thrive. Although she is not 100% great with my other dogs, I feel she could have another dog in the home with an experienced owner. She prefers males. However, Kamyla would be great in a home as the only pet. All she wants is her person to lay on the couch with and toss a ball or toy a few times a day. She does have a silly, playful side and that has only come out since being in a foster home.
07/27/23 Foster update: I took Kamyla, aka Myla, in when she tragically injured herself by rupturing a disc which left her paralyzed in her back end. I was very leery having her because her history with other dogs was not good. But I could not leave her in a shelter in her condition. Surgery was scheduled 6 days after her injury. Within hours after surgery she was up walking again. She spent 4 weeks resting and only allowed out on leash. This girl was so resilient, and it was amazing to be part of her recovery. Kamyla has been with us now for 2 months. The change in her has been nothing but miraculous. She is slowly becoming part of my pack of 5. She has zero aggression towards the other dogs. She is just happy to be part of the family. She really likes a couple of my dogs and even wants to play but I'm not too sure about that yet. She avoids eye contact with my female and another big male I have; but she never growls or lunges at any of them. Kamyla does spend a lot of her time behind a kiddy gate where she can see all of us and most of her time outside by herself. There are hours in the days when I leash her up and she is happy to go and do whatever I do. All the while not bothering any of the other dogs. She is learning to trust. Kamyla really deserves a home to call her own. She is very affectionate and well behaved.
From previous foster: Weve only had Kamyla a very short time, but she continues to thrive. She has a soft little snore, which is adorable. Shes totally potty trained - ZERO accidents and shes got a great little routine. She loves her cozy bed and naps a lot. She knows her name and likes to follow us around the house. Shes friendly to everyone who comes to the house. I hate the thought of her going back to her stressful kennel situation on Thursday.
Kamyla is a sweet dog. She responds well to confident, fair, and consistent leadership. She's super easy to walk on leash and we imagine she would love long walks up trails or on the beach. At this point in time, she is not eager to meet other dogs. Kamyla needs to be in a home that welcomes her as their only pet. Ideally her human companion is interested in working with Kamyla to build her confidence and trust.
Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs will be given a full medical assessment to insure optimum health, current on vaccinations, and desexed. Cortez dogs are not microchipped.
