ADOPTION OF A PUPPY UNDER 9 MONTHS OF AGE
The dog you are interested in is a puppy (under a year old). Puppies are placed into their new homes on a foster-to-adopt basis until he/she is old enough to be neutered or spayed. We prefer the puppy to be no younger than 7 months old for females and 9 months for males. Houses with pools must demonstrate that puppies can be restricted from the pool with fencing or a cover. Additional puppy vaccines will be required, and will be coordinated by SPR to occur either in your home by an SPR volunteer, or brought by the adopter to an SPR-approved facility. Puppies often have multiple potential adopters, so SPR evaluates which home is the best match with any given puppy and their expected home needs once they have grown.
My name is Julia. I am so ready for my forever home, so let me tell you all about me! I am 5 months old and almost 60 pounds. If you know dogs, you know that makes me a “big girl”. It also means I will grow into an even “bigger girl” over the next year. My mom was a German Shepherd but not sure what dad was, vet thinks maybe Mastiff or maybe Great Dane. Regardless my foster mom says my breed is “special”. I love to play with other dogs, so having other young active fun-loving dogs in the home is the best for me.
Large breed playmates will be best as I play hard. I LOVE playing in the yard with my besties. We run and play for hours chasing balls, toys and each other. I really do need a yard with a fence to keep me safe and allow me to get all my puppy energy out. I’m not an apartment or condo without a yard kind of girl. I live with senior dogs too and they tolerate my puppy antics, but I know that they are not my playmates, and I am respectful. I am learning obedience like stay and sit and down. I’m such a big girl that my foster mom says it’s
hard not to think of me as still a puppy. I promise I like to learn if you have patience, a sense of humor, and food of course I am all in!
I can get a bit anxious when my foster mom leaves so having my dog friends sure helps. I really am not fond of the crate or kennels so that is something my foster mom will have to talk to you about. I am almost 100% potty trained but like puppies, I get to playing and then realize its time and just go. I still need to go out
overnight since my puppy bladder just can’t hold it that long yet. I know the puppy door well. I am not a huge fan of water, but maybe in time I could learn and even come to enjoy a swim. Even though I am big, doesn’t mean that snuggling is out of the question, I love to crawl up and fall asleep with my head in your lap. I have
been learning leash skills so that is new since I couldn’t go out on a leash until I had all my complete puppy shots. I love sniffing and all the fun walks bring, so if you are ready to help me master leash walking that would be awesome!
A secret – I LOVE to nap and I am excellent at it. I am ready to find my forever loving family and hope you have young playful dogs to be my new best friends. I’m ready!
