My Story

Joxer is a 2 year old Airedale mix as of October 24, 2009. These pictures were taken in November 2009. The LP volunteers have fallen in love with this guy. Our director, Kim, met his family at McDonald's in a big U Haul truck. They were thrown out of their home by the landlord (only given 24 hours to move so that the landlord could move in the house), lost their jobs and were leaving to stay with family in Chicago. They kept their small dogs but could not take Joxer.

This is what Joxer's former owners have to say about him:
We hate when people do this, and know we are those people. We had three jobs and four dogs (all rescues) between us....now we have four dogs and one job. Joxer is the biggest of the four and therefore the most expensive to keep and the one we are looking to rehome. We have managed to afford them all this far, but they no longer have the quality of life they once did, they get fed but have very few treats, new toys, etc. Joxer is two years old (just turned two on October 24th) and an Airedale mix and an absolute clown. He will do anything to make you laugh and very much enjoys leaping off things, running into things, singing, falling over and wearing human T-shirts. He knows his name, sit, stay, paw, speak, high five, roll over, lay down, jump, beg, crawl and I'm sure many others that I have forgotten. He's a quick study and learned most of those tricks within a week of each other. Joxer is housebroken too. He's a very social guy, loves other dogs and never plays dominant games - he can get a little grumpy if other dogs go near his food though, though ours are all fed in the same room and we've only had one incident and no blood was drawn. Also, we have a cat that he loves dearly but he's not real spry on other cats. I don't know how he'd be with a house cat that is used to dogs, but if he sees a cat in the yard he goes nuts. He's an easy groomer and likes to take warm showers.

Joxer went to the vet to get his vaccines updated and be tested for Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia and get a fecal on December 3, 2009. He was negative for everything and is on HW preventative.
