My Story

Courtesy Posting: CODE RED- NOW RESCUE ONLY AT BAKERSFIELD, CA (CENTRAL CAL)- GORGEOUS, YOUNG PUREBRED CHOW, 46 LBS AND 2 YRS YOUNG- DOG FRIENDLY, SWEET IN VIDEOS, being treated with antibiotics now for URI as of 6-6, needs out asap!!! Bakersfield Animal Care Center- ID#A152120 - “JORDAN”- needs foster or foster to adopt and rescue asap before he is euthanized for space at high kill shelter X URGENT- SHELTER IS BEYOND FULL AND ASKING FOR IMMEDIATE HELP FOR SWEET CHOW BOY “JORDAN”. As many know, Bakersfield is sadly a large breeding and dumping ground for unwanted pets. This dear boy was found as a stray and dumped. We fondly named this smaller boy Jordan. Like many chows, he can appear more stoic in his kennel or at first, but warms up to people he trusts. They have noticed he is a little head shy, but the shelter manager tells us Jordan ”He is more open with me and will follow me and engage in affection and play but it’s only is small doses. He is my shadow and likes to lay at my feet.” Jordan was kenneled with an unrelated, spayed female dog to which he seems indifferent, if not a bit submissive in video we have. The shelter tested him with a similar sized male and he seemed a bit more interested, but only in terms of wanting to initially sniff him. We also have video of this to share. Jordan was recently neutered but then developed an upper respiratory infection and has been placed on antibiotics since June 6th, so he is no longer kenneled with another dog. As a result, he is stressed and now being more defensive in his kennel so only some of staff can take him out. Thus, he has now been made Rescue Only- meaning only a rescue group can now pull him out of the shelter. However, rescues need a foster (or foster to adopt) to save him. Therefore, if you may be able to help or are interested in adopting, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist the shelter with his placement, so we can try to pair you with a rescue to save him. Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at (661) 832-7387 and ask for ID A152120. If available, please ask for Josuha or Jennifer the rescue coordinator there to further assist you. The shelter website with more information is: He is not currently listed online due to Rescue Only status. We will be posting additional pictures, video and updates as we receive them on facebook at: Note: to view contents of links you will need to copy and paste each link separately into your browser.
