My Story

** $25 in pledges to the rescue that pulls ** ** New videos and behavior notes! (8/3) ** Jojo ACCT-A-169395 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Jojo must have confirmed placement with an EXPERIENCED ADOPTER OR RESCUE PARTNER by Sunday, August 4th by 10:00 am. Should Jojo's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Meet Jojo, a 4 year old pug mix who was surrendered due to his owners not having enough time for him. This guy is in need of a furever home that can let him decompress. He would do best in a home without children due to his level of reactivity. He is the kind of guy who needs a very slow approach and time to come out of his shell. Once Jojo has time to warm up he will allow pets on his head, back and sides. He is very food motivated and will show off his stellar "sit" for you! His previous owner left good notes about him with other dogs. NOTES: NEW! Per volunteer 8/3: I took Jojo out on July 2. He was in a large kennel, and with the divider lowered, he came to the kennel door and allowed me to loop him. Outside he exit searches but when he comes close to me he did allow me to pet his back. A couple of times when he drank from the pool, he dipped his one front paw in the water, but that's as far as he went. He wasn't interested in my dry treats, but he did love the wet food I gave him. We tried a meet for him but he avoided interacting with the other dog - there was nothing aggressive about his behavior. When I returned him to his kennel, I used the clip method to remove my leash. Today, July 3, he came to the front of his kennel when he saw me. He was easy to loop, and walked outside to the yard. He allowed me to pet his back, again, and today I was able to pet him all over - weel his top side,no belly rubs, see video. We did a meet with a female dog, who he wanted to hump, see video. When I returned him to his kennel, I didn't have to use the clip method. I just removed him again from his kennel to assist with getting a shy dog from the kennel. He was well behaved towards the other dog and had no problem when a guest gave him pets, see video. No problem returning him to his kennel Per staff on 8/2: Yesterday, I tagged along with staff and a volunteer as they brought Jojo into an office for a visit, then set Jojo up in a kennel on the adoption floor. Jojo appeared stressed on leash (panting excessively, alert, fidgeting) but was not reactive toward any of us in the room, in the adoptions area, or while being placed in his kennel. He allowed the volunteer to briefly scratch his hind end while they took a video, remained a few feet away from me or right next to me throughout, and at one point jumped up on me, paused, then hopped back down to fidget and explore some more. The staff member had no issues placing Jojo in a kennel. On 8/01 per staff: Unable to safely get Jojo out for a dog meet. Tried for several minutes to leash using the snappy snare. Tried to win him over with treats. He would eat them readily, but still charged and snaped forward when attempting to leash. Asked another staff member for assistance and he did the same towards her. On 7/30 per staff: Jojo was reactive in the kennel when approaching. It took me several minutes to leash him due to his levels of reactivity. When I first approached he charged the bars and began to snarl and snap. I carefully opened the kennel a peak and he retreated to the corner sitting upright baring teeth, growling, barking. He remained towards the corner but continued to react and would growl and snap at me or the leash with any lasso attempts. On a couple tries he caught the leash in his mouth and would shake it and bite down before dropping it. Eventually I was able to get the leash around his head and he continued to react until the leash was tightened around his neck. Once tightened he hesitantly exited the kennel and walked fine on leash. In my office Jojo was fairly stressed and was panting heavily with red ears. He is very food motivated and in the room readily took beef liver treats from me. He is snatchy so watch your fingers!!! He also showed knowledge of sit. He allowed me to pet his head and back and sides without issue but never leaned in or solicited- only tolerated. There were a couple times he head whipped at me and lifted his lip with extended handling and he would head whip and lip raise when touching his paws, ears, or tail. On 7/28 per owner: Likes kids and is playful Housetrained High energy and barks Knows "Sit, "Stay, "Come, and "Laydown Towards strangers will "bark and growl Towards children and dogs is "great Dislikes cats Videos: NEW!
