From Jinx's foster mom: She had her surgery yesterday morning and is doing very well. She stayed the night in the hospital, and I picked her up today at 5:00 pm when I got off work. She was very happy to see me, very alert on the ride home, went straight for her bed and passed out. She has a pain patch in her back that is delivering a constant pain killer. They found a fragment the size of a quarter, they didnt have to cut it out, it was free-floating in there. She has an incision about 6 inches long on her right back leg. She is supposed to be mobile in a couple of weeks, but the doctor says the scar tissue in her socket was pretty intense and she may never have full function of her leg. By removing the fragments, she will be in much less pain, and certainly have much better use of her leg. Thanks you to everyone who has donated towards her care and kept her in your thoughts. She is one of the best dogs I have ever met, and I have known many!
Update 4/28/08
Tommy is doing well. We are still waiting on further testing results but he is recouping from surgery quite well. Unfortunately our surgery bill for him came in $600 over the estimate, so our goal now has been raised.
Jinx has been scheduled for her surgery on April 30th.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us be able to get these amazing dogs the medical attention they so need. We are extremely grateful and very touched by your generous donations and how quickly everyone came forward to help. Thank you!!
Update 4/24/08: Tommy had surgery today
Thanks to the help of so many faithful MABBR donors, Tommy had his surgery this morning. The specialist was able to find the abscess core and to clean it out thoroughly. A drain was inserted to help with healing. They did a search of the connective tissue but could not find any foreign body, so we still don't have answers to what caused the abscess to occur. Samples were taken to be sent off to do further testing. Tommy will remain on antibiotics, and with the drain, it should allow any residual infection to come out rather than get sealed back up. The surgery did reveal that the surrounding tissue appeared normal and there were no other signs of problems beyond the abscess. So we are very hopeful that this is good news and Tommy will be back to his old self very soon. We will update as soon as the other test results come back.
About Jinx: Jinx was confiscatd in a town with a breed ban. She came to us with her companion Jett, who has already found his forever home.
Jinx is one of the cutest little gals we've seen in a long time. She is truly adorable and has a personality to match. She is eager to please and loves everyone she meets.
Unfortunately, Jinx has been diagnosed with a severe leg problem which will require an expensive surgery. While vets anticipate a full recovery, surgery will be lengthy. More details on her diagnosis coming soon.
