This is one of the survivors of the Napavine fire that sadly ended in tragedy. You can search thwir history by the hashtag #napavine12.
It has taken a little bit of time for them to overcome their trauma but thanks to their wonderful foster homes, Jerald has definitely made amazing strides to the adjustment to normal doggie life.
Jerald was probably the most traumatized by the whole event and still does have a high level of anxiety in new situations. Because of that we are hoping that his adoptive home will be one that will be understanding, patient and loving for him as you help him overcome his trauma.
He does not openly come to people but we have been kind of tethering him to us throughout the day and pick him up often and sit down for cuddles. Once you start the cuddles especially if you have a blanket he loves to snuggle down in there and watch the world go by.
He is crate trained and does quite well in his "den", sleeping and decompressing from the world. With time and confidence, I'm sure he would love to snuggle all night long.
Jerald would definitely benefit from another mellow Chihuahua or other dog that he can use to help build his confidence. He does love to snuggle with other dogs so we think he would do best in a home with a companion that is confident and caring.
Because he was altered so late in life, He isn't 100% potty trained YET, (marking behavior), but he wears his belly band with no problem.
Since Jerald is a senior and their past life was so traumatic we would love to find him a wonderful forever home as soon as possible so that he can enjoy the experience is that come from a loving family.
He is definitely the definition of a rescue. His past does not define his future and we know that after seeing how far he has come that he will go even further when he is in a home with his forever family and another confident companion to lead him on his new path in life.
Jerald is altered, microchipped, up-to-dates on his vaccines and has had a dental when first rescued. He is all set to find his forever home. His adoption fee is $250 and helps to ensure that we can continue to provide a safe haven for dogs like Jerald and his friends in the future.
