My Story

This adorable classic fawn boy is Jacky and he’s being fostered in Myrtle Creek, OR. As male Boxers go Jacky is rather compact. His healthy weight will not exceed 55 pounds. He was 14 months old and weighed only 47 pounds in June when he came to us from a home in Oregon. Jacky has gained six pounds, all muscle, thanks to regular meals of quality food and lots of exercise playing with his foster fur-siblings. Now that his body condition has improved Jacky will be neutered in mid-August. Jacky is definitely a Velcro pup. He is house and crate trained though he has some separation anxiety if he cannot see or hear his human. He goes into his crate when directed but will whine and bark for a while before settling down for a nap or to play with a favorite toy. A stuffed Kong or kibble in a snuffle mat helps distract him from missing his human. Jacky can escape a crate if it doesn’t have safety latches or carabiners, but he is non-destructive. He doesn’t counter surf or chew up things that aren’t meant for dogs. He does not mark territory indoors. This boy is positively charming. He is sweet and cuddly, gives soft kisses and asks for permission to climb onto your lap. He sits for treats and takes them gently. He goes to his crate when his snuffle mat is being prepared. He will sit and wait for his meal which he eats from a raised feeder. He has the quintessential Boxer facial expressions and wiggle. Jacky is social with every human and k9 he meets. He previously lived in harmony with a cat. Before joining rescue, he frequented a dog park where his foster mom observed him greeting every dog who entered with a play bow. Of the half dozen dogs there, only one was offended by his puppy-like enthusiasm. Jacky quickly adjusted to each dog’s play style. Jacky will entertain himself by selecting his toys one by one and lining them up in a row, or by frolicking around the yard shaking a toy in his mouth. Mostly, Jacky enjoys the company of his three foster fur-siblings. He is a quick study who earned the approval of the resident pack by day 15. He shares a room with the 3-year-old who is twice his size. They became fast friends doing zoomies in the yard. Jacky and the senior girl wrestle at ground level. He and the middle-aged resident dog play hard, mosh pit style, and boxing; and the whole pack loves to play catch-me-if-you-can! When foster mom says playtime is over, or gives any direction, Jacky is always the first to comply. A fun-loving, go with the flow kind of guy, Jacky will be your sidekick at social outings and on all kinds of outdoor adventures. He sits to be leashed for walks. He loves car rides and sits to be harnessed. Then he sits at the door awaiting the okay to exit. Jacky is looking for a furever home with at least one other outgoing dog and possibly a dog savvy cat.
