My Story

Meet Jack. Jack is an approx. 1-1/2 yr. old mix breed (possibly collie/terrier/aussie). He's not too big - not too small, weighs 42 lbs. Little is known about Jack's history. He was captured after two months of running in a field/wooded area near a housing development in northern Wayne Co. Although Jack was very friendly with all the neighborhood dogs he was fearful of humans, therefore making his capture very difficult. His fear of people and a large gash in the side of his head makes it appear that he may have been abused prior to him being captured. Since being placed in a foster home the playful and loving side of Jack has begun to show. Jack loves the one-on-one attention from his foster parents. He has plenty of energy for playing outdoors but calms down when indoors. He loves being brushed and petted and will even roll over for belly rubs. Jack appears to be cat and dog friendly but does show some prey drive when out for walks. Jack still has some fear of people, especially when meeting new people or with large groups. However once he realizes he is not in danger he begins to warm up and actually becomes very playful. Because of his fear issues, we recommend a quieter home and no children under 10 yrs. He's beginning to learn some obedience training and shows a desire to please his handler. Jack has learned sit and down commands and is working on perfecting his leash training. His recall still needs work, therefore we recommend a home with a fenced yard . Jack appears to be housetrained and is slowly learning that his crate is his "own space". He sleeps the entire night in his crate without much fuss and keeps a clean crate.
