Interests: Snacks, snacks, food, snacks. A good meal washed down with a satisfying drink after a long walk.
Pet Peeves: Being left behind
My ideal day: I would love to take my human on long walks with lots of good sniffs along the way, wagging my tail gleefully the entire way.
I won't dilly dally too long on any one spot, because I know there are more good sniffs just ahead. I like to lead, but I don't pull on the leash, because I love knowing my human is by my side.
I might need you to be patient with me, I've been through a lot, since I was on my own for awhile, sudden movements still startle me. Can you blame me? So, if my new home had kids, I just would want them to be sensitive to me, I've run across some uncaring humans in the past.
I can sometimes be a loner, but I think that will pass once I find my human love match, 'cuz gosh I sure love my head and neck rubbed.
I sleep through the night, and would love to snuggle up to someone that wouldn't mind a beagle that's had a few hard knocks. Sure would be cool to hang out at my human's feet and chew on a bone while they chat with friends.
Since I'm sharing my doggy day dream with you, I've always thought it would be awesome to have my own yard where I could rule over the intruding squirrels.
My Story: I don't know how I ended up in downtown KC, MO, but thank goodness this lady police officer stopped me, 'cuz I was sure getting tired trying to get that guy's attention while he was riding past me on his bike. Come to find out, the guy on the bike didn't even know I was trying to get his attention.
Boy was I tired, and I hate to say it, but peweee, I was stinky, too. The top of my neck was cut wide open, and the whole left side of my face, including my snout and ears were swollen. I could barely see, and I couldn't move my head very well, 'cuz it hurt really bad. Some mean dog must have thought I was moving in on his turf. I barely escaped.
I think I slept for a week straight when she dropped me off at the vet. (Of course, I perked right up when it was chow time, but it sure did hurt to chew at first 'cuz my face was so sore.)
My doggie jewels have been snipped now. I don't hold any grudges...should help keep me out of trouble.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, I found out I had heartworms. Thanks again to that lady officer and her friends, they didn't throw in the towel. My neck got stitched up, the infection in my wounds healed well, and I completed the heartworm treatments, phew, what an ordeal!
The lady officer bailed me out of the vet's office; I got tired of being on lock down getting those heartworm shots. I'm a natural born sniffer. Plus, they called me Elmer, they said it fit my personality...how humiliating. I like "Jack" better, short for one-eyed Jack, 'cuz my left eye was swollen shut when I was found. Jack is a much edgier name. I'm certainly open to a new name with a fresh start.
Although, the lady officer is now sharing her home, I know it's only temporary. She has two big dogs and a cat, and no yard. There isn't enough room for me. I just know there is someone or even a family that will love me and help create those special routines with me that always end with a treat. I just have to find my special human(s). I hope they are dreaming of me, too.
