My Story

5/5/08: Izzy has been adopted by the Allen Family :-)

UPDATE 3/31/08: Check out Izzy's new photo - she's such a tiny little lady!

UPDATE 3/16/08: Izzy, or Squirt, as her foster mom has nicknamed her, is a very sweet, very tiny girl! (10 lbs, the size of most cats) She has not shown us much of her personality yet, but has had no problems setting boundaries with the resident bouncing 1 year old dog (who is three times her size!). She also has no trouble with the two cats.

She appears to be house-trained at night (she sleeps in a crate), and has settled into the family's schedule nicely during the first week in foster care. She is crated while her foster parents go to work during the day, but that will just last until she adjusts to her new life, and masters house training.

Izzy LOVES her pink blanket - it's one of her favorite places to nap. She loves being under covers with people and she hates the cold, so be prepared to cuddle the nights away if Izzy's your girl! She doesn't care for loud noises, so she might not to well in an hectic household.

Izzy has not met any children, so we don't know how she would react, but any kids would need to be respectful of her space, her delicate ears, and her beloved pink blankie! She will not be placed in a home with children under 10

Please give Izzy a chance...and stay tuned for new photos!!! 3/8/08: Izzy is in foster care in Maine. More updates to follow, she is very small and very sweet.

Update from the shelter in Arkansas: Says that Izzy is just the PERFECT dog. Housebroken (and change in residence will require an adjustment period) quiet, loves to be held and cuddled, very smart, gets along with all the other dogs, and on and on. Izzy loves carrying around a fuzzy/soft blanket and will lay down and kind of suck / chew on it until she falls asleep. Her foster mom thinks it is because poor Izzy was just so cold when she was lost and had nothing, that she gets comfort by carrying the blanket around. This little girl will be one that her new family will have to promise to send updates and pictures!!!

Izzy is approximately 5 years old in these pictures taken January 27, 2008 at our partner shelter in Arkansas. . She was found by a farmer who said that she and her two or three puppies had been running around his road. He was able to catch her, but was unable to find the puppies. Several attempts were made, but the pups could not be found.

Izzy is a very loving little thing. She wants to be by your side or on your lap all the time. Izzy loves to sleep with the Arkansas director and she will follow her around every where she goes. She is afraid of loud noises and sudden movements. That is why we are recommending that she not go to a home with children under 12.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter.
