We do not transport our dogs. *AGE: 2.5 years old (born December 2021) *WEIGHT: 60 lbs. *FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical secure fence and yard are required. Iris enjoys being outside and playing chase. She is vocal and likes to bark so won’t be a good fit for a home with a shared wall. *COAT TYPE: soft, curly/wavy low-shedding coat. Her new family should be prepared to brush her coat regularly and have her groomed every 6-8 weeks at the cost of approximately $100/groom. *ENERGY LEVEL: Spurts of high energy throughout the day. She is most excited in the morning and night and requires regular exercise and play time. She enjoys daily walks, chasing around the yard, play time with her foster dog brother and mental stimulation games. *DOGS: Iris is currently in a foster home with a 3 year old mini-Bernedoodle (40 lbs) and 8 year old Goldendoodle (60 lbs). Iris is very playful and is still learning how to take cues from other dogs when they do not want to play. If she is placed in a home with another dog, she would be best with a very active young large dog who enjoys play multiple times throughout the day. *CATS: She seems very interested in our senior cat but not in a predatory way. Our cat doesn’t stick around long enough for them to touch noses. *KIDS: 12+. In her prior home, Iris lived with 3 teenage boys and was reported to be very sweet. There are no children in her foster home so we are uncertain how she is with younger children. *CAR: Iris tolerates the car. She pants and leans against the back seat for car rides. She did not get car sick! *CRATE: Iris reportedly did well in her crate in her previous home. She slept in her crate at night and took naps in it during the day and would quickly settle in her crate. However, in her current foster home she doesn’t like going in the crate since the other dogs are not crated. *HOUSE TRAINED: Yes! Iris has been perfect with zero accidents. *LEASH: Iris initially mostly pulled when on a leash. With direction, she is doing well and wants to learn. She will need consistent reinforcement in her new home to keep progressing with this. We are also working on calmly going in and out of the house. She wants to charge in and out the door. *VET: Iris’ previous owner reported that she loves going to the vet. *GROOMING: Iris seems to be a pro at the groomer. We had no issues taking her to the groomer. Her previous home reported she loved going to the groomer too. Gorgeous, sweet Iris is a 2.5 year old, 60 pound female Bernedoodle who was surrendered to IDOG by her owner who loved her very much. Iris had too much energy for the resident small dog (Pug) in the home and they wanted Iris to find a home where she would get more exercise and attention. Iris would benefit from a home that can provide leadership/guidance, structure, continued training and exercise. She is very athletic and plays hard so a home with a compatible dog or dogs would be ideal. She would also likely be fine as an only dog in her new home if her owner(s) ensures her exercise needs are met. Iris is great at meeting other dogs. She may need help socializing with people outside the home. She is curious and confident inside our home. Even on the first day, she picked a dog bone out of the toy basket and jumped on the couch without permission. She loves affection from her foster parents and likes to lean against you for pets and give her paw for extra pets. Iris would thrive in a home that can provide structure and lots of exercise. She enjoys 2 mile walks as well as running and chasing our dog in a fenced in yard. Iris romps around and wrestles with my dog sometimes too. She is very outgoing overall and can be assertive. She would do great in a home with another dog or dogs with similar exercise needs and compatible temperaments. She growled one time at our dog when he got close to a toy with treats in it that she was playing with-it didn't cause any issues and it is just something to be aware of. Iris will play around with a ball and dog toys but is not a Retriever. She has been terrific left alone in the crate for around 2 hours. I haven’t tested more than that. She is confident and curious on walks but can be fearful of meeting new people so far; this is getting better with each walk. Iris wakes up at 6:00 and will start barking and whining if you don’t get up with her. She is a ball of energy first thing in the morning and requires exercise. She sometimes barks during early morning outdoor play sessions so we stop and then have her come inside and give her a game to play (with treats) to help expend her energy. When overstimulated, she likes to nibble on cushions, blankets, pillows, etc. She also humped blankets the first 5 days of coming in to the foster home. That behavior has stopped once she has settled in. Her new family should expect this will happen when she transitions to her new home. She can be vocal at times and this may be an issue for anyone living in an apartment or attached neighbor setting. She loves to lounge on furniture. Initially, we worked on stopping this habit but she was very hesitant as it was obvious this was something she was used to and very much enjoys. If the new owners don’t allow her to be on furniture, it will take some time to get her to adjust to this. In the 2 weeks since she has been in our foster home, she is doing a wonderful job of improving her behavior. The amount of positive change we have seen is beyond anything we could imagined. She is VERY trainable. We feel she could greatly benefit from behavioral training classes and she seems very open and willing to learn and change bad behaviors. She wants to do a good job and is a complete love bug. The biggest challenge is managing her energy level when she wants to play which she tries to do on her own with nibbling on soft items and toys, etc. Adjectives that describe Iris: *Sweet *Affectionate *Energetic *Smart *Playful *Enthusiastic *Athletic *Trainable *Curious *Skittish with new people *Friendly with new dogs *Confident Activities she enjoys: *Playing chase with other dogs *Running through the sprinkler *Catching water from the sprinkler *Exploring the park (on a leash of course) *Jumping in the creek *Belly rubs *Long walks *Meeting dogs Iris is up to date on core vaccines, spayed, microchipped, & house-trained. She is heartworm negative & current on heartworm/flea/tick preventives. IDOG will hold a $100 refundable training deposit to encourage her new family to go through training with her to help her be successful in her new home. Since 2006, IDOG has been working with rescue dogs and we have found that when an adopted dog goes through training with its new family it strengthens their bond and gives the adopted dog more confidence and security. The training deposit will be refunded upon proof of training classes. ADOPTION FEE: $500 + $100 training deposit to be refunded upon proof of training classes. Our adoption fees are non-refundable. Puppies and highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board and train costs, medical/health issues and surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees and our expenses. Unfortunately donations are down across the board for all rescues.
