My Story

A call came into us about a scared dog who had been on a local property for a few days. The dog had taken up shelter under a children’s play structure and could frequently be seen just staring at the road. It seemed highly likely she was dumped. Too smart to quickly fall for a humane trap, one of our volunteers instead spent countless hours over the course of several days gaining her trust. Finally, she was safe! Back at the shelter, she was scanned for a microchip, and she had one! We were hopeful she had an owner somewhere missing her. What we found out broke our hearts even more… Indy is a 4 year old shepherd mix who was originally adopted in Texas. Her owner’s move brought her to Indiana where she found herself in need of a new home due to allergies of her owner’s new spouse. Indy was rehomed to a family member where she lived for a period of time. She was then rehomed again (reason unknown) to a family in Hendricks County a couple months ago. We did locate this family, and although they claimed Indy had run away, they also no longer wanted her and had no intention of claiming her. In summary, Indy has had no stability in her life and has been let down by a number of humans, none of which has been her fault. She seems to be a wonderful dog, and we are committed to finding Indy her true forever family!! Indy weighs 90 pounds and is housebroken. She has previously lived with children, with cats and with other dogs. A meet and greet with any existing dogs in a potential new home will be required to ensure a good fit. Indy knows how to sit and enjoys human interaction. She also loves walks outside! Indy is strong on a leash but has the potential to improve with a little effort. She is a sweet girl more than deserving of a stable home.
