Howie is an 11 month old boxer mix. He is very active and would be best in a home with another playful dog or kids. He does, however, settle down nicely when needed. He has a calm disposition, is very curious and lovable. He loves to give kisses and thinks he is a lap dog. He will probably not get much bigger except for putting on some weight.
Howie has been with SOS since June do to leg surgery. His leg was broken and he was going to be put down at the shelter. He had an old break in his leg that required extensive surgery. The leg was repaired and pins were inserted in his leg. Another surgery was done about 2 months later to remove the pins. His recovery was very slow and he was kennel bound for 2 1/2 months. When he was out and about and his leg hurt he would just pick it up and go on his merry way. He could have managed fine on 3 legs but now he has 4 and is a happier pup. You would never know now to watch him play and run that he ever had surgery. He has gotten a 100% clean bill of health. He is strong and happy. As old age comes on I am sure some arthritis will set in but that is to be expected.
Howie is fully housebroken and crate trained - although he is not real fond of it due to the amount of time he spent in a crate during his recovery. He does know his commands but is a new found "puppy" since he has all 4 legs to use, so some reinforcement is necessary. He is really sweet and good with kids of all ages. He loves to play catch with the ball and really loves the water. He is good with cats although he does try to play with them - but does not attempt to harm them in any way. He is great with other dogs and would make a good buddy for another dog. He is a one of a kind very active dog. He is fun to watch and play with. He is really a wonderful animal and would make a great family pet. He is neutered and up to date on shots.
