Update: Oct 25, 06 Honey FINALLY got her casts off today. She has to be very careful for the next few weeks until the muscles have a chance to build themselves up... they are severly atrophied. Expect a minimum of 2-4 of recovery time before she's ready to be looking for her new forever home. Until then, she's getting daily hot tub therapy, etc.
Update: September 12, 2006 It has been a rough road for Honey. She is in double casts due to tearing the tendons in her right leg trying to support the weight of the cast on her left leg. She has a severe case of pneumonia that is not responding well to medications and still has several weeks remaining before even considering removing the casts is an option. She has become a very very expensive little puppy to try to recouperate and we would greatly appreciate any donations to assist in paying her care. She will most likely need specialized rehabilitation after removing both casts because the front leg muscles will be so weak, a simple fall could cause a rebreak and would also endanger her life. Please consider donating something to assist with her care, every penny received will go to her care as long as it is identified for her.
Please send donations too:

August 25, 2006: Well, it has been a rough few weeks for Honey. She contracted kennel cough prior to coming into rescue and while treating the kennel cough it worsened into pneumonia. She has been on several different medications to try to combat the pneumonia but is too young for many of the well known treatments out there right now. Once she gets a bit older, if the pneumonia isn't under control, new medications will be tried that are more conventional but for now we can only work with a few select choices to try to get her better.
Also, she tore her tendon in her other front leg (not the broken leg) by trying to use it for support - the tendon wasn't strong enough to support the weight of the cast, so now she is in a double splint to allow the tendon in one leg to heal and the broken bone in the other leg to heal. We know she will be back to her wonderful self in a few weeks but it is very difficult for everyone to watch her struggle. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Donations to assist with her care would be greatly appreciated because she has needed so much expensive medical care. All donations can be sent to:

Welcome Honey to IGCA rescue. She is a 4 month old female Italian Greyhound that is blue fawn and white.
Honey has a broken leg and will be in foster care until the leg is completely healed and physical therapy is completed which is estimated to be around November 2006. We also have homes currently on the waiting list that will meet with her first.
Honey is not housebroken and has not started teething yet, although she should start prior to adoption. She is a very fun loving and happy puppy but will need an IG experienced home for placement due to the extensive house training that is still to come. We also will not consider homes that have children under the age of 10 due to her already having a broken leg and not wanting a second one to be broken by accident if at all possible.
If you are interested in this or any other dog being fostered by IGCA Rescue - Colorado, please contact Serena Galloway at (
