My Story
Who knew that this tiny, dumpster-diving, street urchin would grow up to be such a BIG sweetheart. Honey came to us skinny little red-nose pup, and now at 6 months old is hitting the scales at 70 lbs. Obviously we got our breed ID wrong, and have ended up with an easy-going gal with a kind mastiff temperament.
Meanwhile, Cinzia was looking for a best friend and companion. She came to Vancouver to meet Daisy Duke, but one kiss from Honey and we knew who Honey was heading home with. Honey, now named Halo, has moved over to Vancouver Island and has quickly taken over Cinzia's couch (and bed). We are all so happy with this match! Thank-you to Linda for taking in this back alley pup and transporting her to vet visits; Dayna, Malcolm, BB's alumni Emma, and patient cats for fostering Honey; and Cinzia for being so open to finding the right match- you have found a fantastic dog in Halo!
spent two weeks scrounging for food in back alleys prior to the postal service employee being able to catch her. This little street urchin is now feeling much better.
Honey is as sweet as her name implies. She may look like a fiery red-head but right now her favorite thing to do is cuddle! After spending two weeks scrounging in back alleys for food she is thankful for the warmth of foster care, and a regular meal. She was underweight, but is now a healthy size. She is learning basic commands, is great in the house and almost completely house-trained!
Currently living in foster care with people, dogs, and cats- she thinks the more friends the merrier. She does however love to chase the cats, so if adopted to a home with a dog-savvy cat the parents will also need to continue to enforce no chasing boundaries.
Here is an update from her foster family:
"She's doing awesome! I must confess, Honey turned into Honey-Bunny and we've mostly been calling her just Bunny.. it suits her, she's jumpy and crazy like a little rabbit :) Anyway, she's fattened right up and she's pretty much to the point where you'd never have guessed she was living off of garbage on the streets. She's a cute little brat, she likes to chase the kitties around (she doesn't get why they won't play with her) and eat out of their litter box if given half a chance. I'd say she's completely crate-trained at this point, in the week+ we've had her she's only really whined once or twice when put in there, and for half an hour tops. She's doing pretty great with the house training, too. She's down to only going once or twice in the house a day, she mostly saves it for outside. I think this has something to do with her poop firming up a great deal since I've had her on good dog food rather than scraps of stuff. Anyway, she's not too far away from being totally house trained. She's very sweet and cuddly and chock full of personality, especially now that she's healthier and has more energy. "
Honey is now ready for a home of her own. Her adoption fee is $200 to help cover vet expenses.
