My Story
This is a courtesy listing for Honey! Please contact Phoenix Rising Border Collie Rescue (PRBCR) for an application.
Honey has been here for a bit and I think we are seeing her true self now. Since the shelter she has put on nearly twenty pounds (she used to just melt into the floor!) and is taller than our golden retriever. Like all dogs she loves to learn by smell, but will put her face directly on my face to see what I’ve been up to during the day. She will occasionally still jump on company or if she’s really excited, but she also loves to stand on her hind legs with her front ones draped over my arm for a little chat. We had our first trip to the lake and she went right in the water and enjoyed all the new smells. She loves to go for walks and does well on the leash. On a recent park visit she ignored people walking and running, and was unfazed by bikes zooming past. She walked nicely past other dogs, however did not want them to approach us as we sat on a bench. Because she occasionally has tension with one of her foster siblings, Honey should be the only dog in the home. She started off not liking children but is now realizing they are not a threat, however due to her size it would be best not to live with littles. Honey is crate trained for when we are away from home as she still has some puppy in her and will chew something she’s not supposed to. She is crated at night because there are already dogs in the humans’ beds, but she would be fine to sleep loose in a bedroom with her people. One of Honey’s most notable qualities (and the reason we have nicknamed her Pepper, being a little spicy) is she can be quite vocal. She is very protective of us and our home, and will let us know if there is something out of the ordinary. We use the command Hush or Shh and she will settle down. She will also look directly into our eyes and let us know if we have forgotten mealtime or if there is a bird outside she wants to chase. For her safety, Honey needs a tall fence. She once “parkoured” off of ours chasing a squirrel! Honey has strong recall, and has basic obedience. She knows sit, down, and shake, and words like outside, potty, eat/hungry, crate, and off. She is very intelligent and highly trainable. She loves treats and fresh fruits and vegetables and takes them gently. We think Honey is a wonderful dog. She is beautiful, intelligent, protective, and loyal, and is ready to meet her forever family!
PRBCR needs a satisfactory vet reference with records of annual exam, vaccines, heartworm test, and purchase records for your dogs monthly year round heartworm preventatives, and vetting for cats. We adopt to homes in NC, SC, and GA. The adoption fee is $300.00, and the final step of the application for adoption process is the home visit.
