My Story

Note: Homer has heartworm. He clearly came from a home, so he was either not given heartworm preventative or was let loose long enough to contract heartworms. Please know that heartworm treatment is no fun for a dog...It includes 8 weeks of very minimal exercise/play. Treating your dog for heartworm monthly is one of the most amazing ways you can love your dear companion. Homer has gone through his first round of heartworm treatment and will go through his second and final round in the beginning of November. He will be ready to go by the end of November. We're sad he can't go to his forever home sooner...because someone is going to love this boy so much!!!!! This is the handsome Homer! He is a beautiful chocolate lab with a loving lab personality! He is somewhere between 3 and 4 years old. He is crate trained, perfectly potty trained, good with cats, knows the commands "sit" and "shake", and good with other dogs. He enjoys kids a lot, but can get excited and romp a little harder than little kids may be good with. Homer gets along with all people, but on first meeting with men, he is shy....So he needs a gentle male touch to feel comfortable. He was clearly abused by a male, but must have been adored by a woman, because he doesn't have a single fear of them. He is afraid of objects in your hand at times...like the camera while trying to get his picture. This makes us think he may have been abused with objects. However, with that being said, he's is cuddled up next to my husband's side as I write this....so a little time and love will bring out his loyal lab side to any man in the house. He'd make a great addition to a loving home....and he is a pure lab. 25% of all dogs in shelters are pure breeds...so if you're looking for a specific breed, stick with rescue. When you look into Homer's eyes..he'll remind you how important rescue is for the purebreds! To apply for adoption, please fill out an on-line application at www.saveohiostrays.org.
