My Story

Holly is a purebred 2 yr old Bernese Mt Dog who was stolen from a foster home, then found 3 days later w/ both her front legs injured at Thanksgiving -- the vets say she was either thrown/jumped from a moving car or was thrown/ jumped from a height. Surgery at OH State Univ right before Christmas has done wonders for Holly. After having splints on both front legs for 9 weeks, we were able to remove her splints on January 30th. She was so happy to have her own legs back but quickly realized that they were not her old legs at all. Holly's new front legs do not bend at the wrists because of the metal plates and screws that are now stabilizing her bones from the inside. However, she has flexion at the shoulder and paws so she is able to stand and walk, just a little stiff legged! Holly continues to improve every day in her ability to get around. She has come so far from her injury and maintains a sunny disposition about her life. Among her favorite things are chewing on a good bone from the butcher, joining the family for some group time on the family room floor in the evenings, and exploring the backyard. She is a gentle girl and will nudge us for attention. She loves attention and being with people!! She has been getting along beautifully w/ our dogs. But too much energy from them does appear to worry her. She came to us with few "good dog manners" but is intelligent and has caught on quickly to rules of the house (like it is not a good idea to eat off the kitchen table). She has never had a potty accident in our home and she has been w/ us now for 6 weeks. NOTE: We will not place her in a home w/ young children nor w/ very energetic large dogs (mellow dogs are fine.) ***For more details/info on Holly herself, please write to her Foster Mom in Cincinnati, Karen, at [email protected] *** For an adoption application, please write to the N Coast BMD Club's Rescue Coordinator, Sherry, at [email protected] ***
