Name: Hippo Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 7 weeks as of 7/29/24 (DOB 6/7/24) SEX: Male Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!): 2.2 lbs as of 7/27/24 Gets Along With: Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs and cats so long as they receive patience and proper training. We would be cautious placing Hippo in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living at: Lucky Dog rescue campus in South Carolina; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get out! Special Adoption Considerations: Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy. Hippo is Looking For: Woof! My siblings Honey Badger and Hedgehog and I have enjoyed growing up in our tiny puppy pile, but now we're ready to split up and get our forever homes! One thing I want you to know is that the shelter overcompensated with our names. Honey Badger is NOT in any way close to a honey badger personality-wise! I will likely be slightly larger than the toe of an actual hippopotamus when full grown. Hedgehog is not prickly at all. And they named our mama - all 13 pounds of her - 'Kilimanjaro' - the highest peak in Africa. Yeah, right. I'm a tiny baby and I'm looking for snuggles and cuddles and exploring my new home and gentle play right now. In a little while I'll be ready to start exploring my neighborhood - and then the world! On my own four paws, please. I want to be a Real Dog, not a purse dog! I also want to go to obedience school so I can learn to be the bestest pup!Most of all, I want to be safe and loved and under my own roof for all my days. What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once this pup has arrived in the DC area and spent some time in foster care Puppy Vetting Requirements: Lucky Puppies have had their age appropriate vaccines, but may not yet be "fully" vaccinated. It is the adopter's responsibility to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, they are at greater risk for illness than an adult dog. Due to this puppy's young age, she/he has not yet been spayed or neutered. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than December 7, 2024. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. A non-refundable spay/neuter deposit will be collected if you would like Lucky Dog to pay for this animal to be spayed/neutered at one of our low cost partner vets. Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!
