My Story

Henry is the sweetest, most gentle dog you have ever met. He is also adorable – folks stop us on the street all the time to talk about how cute he is. I think he is a terrier / basset hound mix. He has the long, hypoallergenic hair of a terrier (so folks allergic to dogs aren't allergic to him!), but the howl of a hound. Luckily, he rarely barks! He has the most gentle mouth in the world – he doesn’t snap or nip. Next week is his 2nd birthday. According to the vet, Henry is super healthy.,p> Henry sleeps either in his crate, or on the floor underneath a piece of furniture. He likes to be under things – it’s where he moved his day bed as well. Henry is great with other dogs – his happiest moments are when he is outside with other dogs, so we go to the dog park so he can run run run. He loves being chased by other dogs, and he always outruns them! For training, Henry can sit, roll over, give paw, sit up pretty, and run along side my bike. He walks beautifully with the gentle leader harness.

Henry is completely housebroken, he lets you know when he wants to go out. He loves squeaky toys, and bones and pig ears, and he isn’t aggressive about any of his toys. He’d love to sit on your lap all the time, but he knows what furniture he isn’t allowed on. Henry is the perfect family dog – he loves to be around people. He is great with kids, including my 10 month old nephew, and a 6 year old that loved to pull his tail. Henry didn’t care. He’d do very well in a home that has a lot of activity, that also has a sense of stability. Henry has also been great with the cats he has been around.

Henry has separation anxiety, and is on medication. Instead of medication, I think what he really needs is a new family, one with folks around a great deal of the time with a lot of people to love him.

Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending. For PUPPIES: SEE BELOW

This dog is Urgent because the shelter it is in is in Arkansas and is overfull, therefore dogs and puppies alike are on the euthanasia list. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us nasty letters about why we euthanize, this is not our choice, we do not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many of them as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!
