She and her sister were left at a shelter when their owner died. The sister was adopted and Heidi has been lonely without her.
Heidi's foster mom wrote in to say that Heidi, who had been a bit too full-figured on arrival in Maine, has lost seven pounds (she topped the scale at 27 lbs. before). Since she's halfway to svelte, she's feeling a bit more energetic. She now LOVES to run and play. She'll chase a tennis ball until she's exhausted.
Heidi is house trained and crate trained.
Heidi loves to go for walks and does well on the leash, but she does like to explore and if something catches her eye, she will let you know she wants to head in that direction.
She has a low to moderate energy level, she loves to go for a few walks a day and she's in heaven with all the new toys in foster care.
She does well with the other dogs in her foster home. Currently, she has a lot of interest in the cat, but dog savvy (and tolerant) cats might be alright.
Heidi has been exposed to teenage children and an 11 year old girl, and she does great with them. She LOVES being around people, and being included in whatever is going on. She enjoys snuggling more than just about anything and she likes to sleep in the bed.
Heidi wouldn't mind being a lap dog who goes out for a few interesting walks a day. She'd ideally find a home where someone is home a lot because she's so very people oriented.
Heidi may be listed as a senior dog, but with a healthy lifestyle, she can look forward to a long and happy retirement. Won't you consider Heidi?
Heidi is up-to-date on shots and has been tested for Heartworms. She is on HW preventative.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".
If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.
