Harvey is approximately 3 years old in these pictures taken December 5, 2009. LP volunteers are in love with this gentle boy. While he gets along great with humans of all ages, he does jump up and might knock down a child. Harvey gets along great with all of the dogs at LP. His owner had to give him up because she lost her home and moved into an apartment. The complex made her give Harvey up after he chased the maintenance man. You see, Harvey is a big pup at heart and loves to play. The maintenance man didn't like or understand Harvey wanting to play and management said he had to go THAT DAY. She was about to take Harvey to the vet to be put down after exhausting all of her options when someone mentioned LP.
This is what is former owner said about Harvey:
Harvey has been bounced around and has had a hard life. I really do not know much about his original owner other than the man lived with his mother. He also had a pit bull that he got about the same time. The man ended up in jail for kidnapping his girlfriend. The mother let her house go back to the bank and Harvey was left for long periods of time by himself in the abandoned house. When he came to me, he ate very little, urinated little and did not defecate. By the time he came to you, he was doing all three perfectly. He was with my cats and never bothered them. He enjoys being with people and even though he is a big dog (71 pounds), he is just a great big baby who likes to snuggle with whomever will love him. He is a gentle dog and even though I have not seen him with children, I think he would be fine with them. I think that he would make a great pet for someone who would truly love him. He is extremely loyal. I hope this info helps. I have had other dogs, but Harvey was the best. I just hate that I had to give him up, but he truly needs other pets to be with and a large yard to roam in.
Harvey went into the vet on December 9 to get neutered, get a fecal, and be tested for Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia. He tested negative for everything and is on HW preventative. Harvey weighed 66.2 pounds.
