Harvey

Harvey weighed 57.3 lbs. and was estimated at 3 years of age on 1/21/04--just past the age of puppyhood chewing and uncontrollable, boundless energy. He is smaller than the typical Labrador, standing only 23 inches tall at the shoulder and measuring 24 inches from the base of his neck to the base of his tail. He and his 8 year old stepbrother Bodie were dumped in an Appalachian West Virginia pound by their owner. In addition to the fact that mandatory holding periods (nationally) govern only strays ( in order to give the owners time to find/reclaim their pet), Harvey and Bodie would have been killed (even with the grace period afforded by the pound) because of the Appalachian Region's general lack of interest in and appreciation of adult dogs. Although his rescuer/foster mom figured both of them would be heartworm positive, having been so disregarded by their owner, Harvey was much luckier than Bodie, who won the heartworm lottery and died after starting the very painful, dangerous heartworm treatment. Harvey (formerly known as Hank) is starting his new life with a new name. It was obvious that neither of these wonderful boys had ever been allowed in a house. Harvey took to the invitation a couple of days quicker than Bodie and now enjoys lounging around the house and protection from the severe weather. Having been outside dogs, neither of them has shown an inclination to potty in the house. Since both Harvey and Bodie had rusted chains around their necks, they probably spent their lives chained out. While the heartworms rendered Bodie listless, Harvey has been enjoying the freedom to play with the many dogs in his foster home and then come inside to rest up. Harvey has a typically wonderful Black Lab personality and is just as gentle as he is playful. He is sooooo loving as is reflected by his very soulful eyes.
