ADOPTED 10-3-09. Thank Fawn and Eric! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~In 9-23-09 Evidently this month, we are Great Dane Rescue!! So, Harley is a beautiful black 3 yr old male. He was adopted by a well meaning, but utterly unprepaired couple, from the local kill shelter. After two weeks they threw in the towel, and contacted us and asked that we find an appropriate home for him. Beacause of our thorough screening process, and adopter education, AND our honesty in a dog's personal behavior, needs, and likes, we feel certain we will be able to find the RIGHT home for Harley. Harley is a average sized male Dane, albeit about 30#'s underweight right now. He will need to be fed a high quality pet food, and we are reccomending Eagle Pack. We currently have him on EP Large/Giant Puppy formula in an attempt to get some weight on him. He will need a home with a Grt. Dn. KNOWLEDGEABLE person, we would prefer someone who currently has a GD, or has recently in the past. He is a very intense bonder, and follows me around like a Shadow. That may have been a more appropriate name for him, actually. He does not like to be left alone, as most of these big babies don't, and he will do best in a home with someone who is home MORE than gone. He can be quite destructive if locked in a room in the house, locked in a crate or put in a kennel run. He can and will jump a 6' fence like it's not even there. He will do best on a larger property, where he doesn't feel "hemmed in" and with someone that can either take him with them everywhere, or in a home where there is someone home all the time. He does equally well with men, women and children, he just doesn't do well left behind. He will do well with other dogs, kids and cats. He is a confidant boy, not showing any signs of being abused or mistreated, however, he is clingy and that is also very common in these giant lap dogs. He will need an indoor home, with frequent and regular access to a fenced backyard, 6' or higher, or an invisible fence is acceptable. NO NEED TO APPLY if you don't have a securely fenced yard. This dog needs his room to run about and be silly. We will update this as we get to know him personally.
