GYPSY HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING WITH A FAMILY IN SURREY....WAY TO GO GYPSY! WE SHOULD KNOW IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS IF THE ADOPTION IS FINAL. PLEASE KEEP CHECKING FOR UPDATES.
August 9th, 2010. Our girl has arrived and what a love she is! So far, Gypsy is fine with the other dogs in her foster home provided she is not permitted to protect her people. Gypsy does not want to share her humans attention with others and will NOT be placed in a home with other dogs, cats or small animals. Gyspy is fine with other dogs on walks and if she is not guarding her people. She can not be a lap dog or permitted on the sofa (not a good idea for a Doxie). Gypsy is very loving and smart and will please at every chance. She is wonderful with older children and people.
July 30th, 2010. GYPSY will be arriving in North Vancouver from her out of town foster home on Aug 8th. Check back here for updates and new photos...
Gypsy is doing well in her temporary foster home and will be transferred to a new foster home in Vancouver. She will be here in the next couple of weeks. We will not be placing Gypsy in a home with other dogs or cats until we get to know her better. Gyspy is fearful of other dogs but gets better with them once she learns she does not need to protect herself. Socializing her slowing has made a huge difference to her. More information will be posted soon. Gypsy is GREAT with older children.
This little lady breaks our hearts. Gypsy has been a chained dog her entire life. When she was not chained she was crated. She has also been debarked...grrr! Gypsy is not spayed but will be upon arriving to our rescue. Gypsy is now safe and in a temp foster home until she makes her way to Vancouver. This girl is fearful of other dogs and will need gentle socializing to help get her confidence back. We are looking for foster care for Gypsy who have no other dogs so she can get the one-on-one she needs to flourish. She will need a home who understands the breed and their traits.
Gypsy is very affectionate with people and older children. She loves to cuddle BUT needs to learn that affection will come when she has earned it. It's hard not to scoop the little ones up in your arms and hug them when you know they have been through so much but because Gypsy is fearful it's best she learn that you are taking care of things from here on in and she has no need to be fearful. This behaviour is not uncommon with dogs who were previously chained and even though Gypsy is a miniature doxie and only weighs 8 lbs this behaviour needs to be taken seriously. Gypsy is otherwise the perfect Doxie. She listens well and comes when called.
We are confident that Gypsy will become well balanced with other dogs once she has been socialized in a stable and nurturing environment. We recommend all four-on- the floor with dogs like Gypsy but as you can see in her current foster home she likes to be on the furniture. This will need to change which will help her in the end. Her foster home reports that Gypsy is almost completely house-trained but may need reminders once she is moved to a new foster home.
