She had been badly infested with fleas and was missing hair in several patches. In addition, we immediately realized that one of her hind legs was injured, as she was unable to put any weight on it and simply dragged the leg behind her. Our veterinarian determined, with radiographs, that both her tibia and fibula were shattered; they were unsure how long Gwen had been in this condition but it did not appear to be a very recent injury. We are heartbroken over the amount of time that she has suffered, but are so glad to have her with us now. Gwen's amputation is scheduled for August 2nd and she will be available for adoption after a brief period of healing (dogs recover quickly from amputations and, in Gwen's case, it will be a relief to have her leg removed). Despite her injury, this is the sweetest girl you can imagine -- she simply wants to be near you and will crawl into your lap for snuggles and pets. We can't wait to see Gwen thrive with a healthy body and a family that adores her. Gwen recently arrived in a foster home and has proven to be the perfect houseguest! She's had no accidents and is quiet in her crate. After the first few nights sleeeping there, she "graduated" to sharing the bed of a teenager that adores her. Gwen is good with our resident dogs and has already learned the house rule that there is only one couch, in one spot, covered by one blanket where the dogs are allowed to lay.
