It was so hard to choose just three images for Petfinder. Gunter is an
INCREDIBLY handsome, TOTALLY impressive dog who seemed to get better-looking
(and more engaging) with every photo! Just

About Gunter: We were
contacted by our good friend Chris, the owner of Tender Loving Pets doggy
daycare here in Indy (voted best daycare 4 years running!) One of her
employees had taken in a Malamute in need, and was looking for placement for
him. Gunter is under 2 years old. Gunter
was that rare Mal who got along well with other dogs of similar size -- in fact,
if you look at his photos (including on Webshots) you will see him playing ALL
OUT with a beautiful Golden Retriever! They did discover, however, that
Gunter doesn't share food well, and this resulted in a fight which banished him
from playtime. However, we do think that Gunter would have a far better
than average chance (especially being a Mal) to succeed in a setting with other
dogs, as long as he had a dog-savvy family willing to manage the food/treat
situation. Update: Though Gunter is now
being fostered at Tender Loving Pets due to a family emergency in the life of
his initial rescuer, his original foster had a lot of information to share about
him. She said: "Gunter is a real 'People Dog' ... he loves being
inside with his 'pack', and follows us around the house. He's also great
with kids, and does great with our two, ages 7 and 10. He will position
himself next to them for petting, and I have never seen him jump up on them!
Gunter is crate-trained, though he slept at our house on the floor on my
husband's side of the bed. He lived indoors with us, though he enjoys
being outisde and spent 3-4 hours outside a day. He does still need a
little work on housebreaking, but of course the crate training helps there!
Gunter knows SIT.
He did well with the other dogs at the daycare, with
the exception of the food incident -- mingling well, running, playing, and
acting friendly. He loves going for walks. He is a young, strong boy
and pulls on lead, so he needs some work there -- though he settles down after
he's onlead for awhile (and needed more exercise while at our house). He
loves car rides and does great in the car. He loves any kind of physical
contact and is a total lover boy ... really just a great big puppy at heart!
We look forward to getting to
know a lot more about GUNTER. In the meantime, though we do our best, we
don't always get the updates up as quickly as we'd like, and there's often new
information that isn't yet posted. If you are interested in Gunter, please

Updates:
Check back soon or SEND AN EMAIL
to request more information and/or an adoption application. This
dog's adoption donation is $250. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain!
This dog has had a complete health exam, has already been altered (spayed or
neutered), is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites.
What to do if you want to
adopt this dog: Just SEND AN EMAIL to request an adoption application!
We will review your application to determine if there is a good match
between your family and this dog. We may suggest another if we can offer a
better fit in terms of lifestyle, experience, other pets, etc. A vet check, reference checks, and a home visit will be conducted before an adoption can be considered for approval.
NOTE:
In the vast majority of cases, the dogs in our program are rescued from
shelters, and Northern Lights has no means by which to collect or verify a dog's
history. We work in concert with our veterinarians, and breed and age
estimates are based on a combination of professional input and our collective
experience. Our policy with information acquired while the dogs are in our
care is that of "full disclosure". It is our goal to ensure the
adopter has all available information to ensure the best possible match between
the dog and the adopting person or family. In some instances, because of
applicant interest, dogs are in our program for relatively brief periods of
time. If we have identified a temperament or health condition while
the dog is in our care and custody, every effort will be made to correct it prior to
adoption OR the adopter will be made aware of the
issue or condition prior to adoption. Northern Lights' screening process
is designed to select only adopters who are willing, and have the means, to
treat conditions which may occur after adoption, and adopter will be
contractually responsible for doing so.
NORTHERN
LIGHTS IS NOT A SHELTER. We are a rescue comprised of individuals who open their private homes to
foster dogs in need of a second chance.
