Groovy! no better name describes this laid back, sweet and gentle boy. Groovy is a 3 year old, neutered, fawn, pure bred Great Dane who weighs in at 145 pounds, 36" at the shoulder with a 42" chest. He is a striking specimen and a people magnet. We got Groovy from a Houston family when he was 9 weeks old. He is socialized with people and is a wonderful indoor pet. He is completely house trained (since age 9 weeks, never an accident) and has never destroyed anything in the house. He has had full run of the house daily without ever a problem.

Groovy spends most of the days lying on the couch and being, well, groovy. He does not ever require the confines of a crate in fear that he may destroy something. He is a super easy indoor guy. He will let you know he needs to go potty by a woof or standing at the door but can hold it for an incredible amount of time especially if it is raining. He loves to play and loves squeaky toys. He should not have rawhide as he is territorial with them.

Groovy is strictly an indoor dog and spends his days lying upside down on the couch. Groovy gets overheated quickly. He loves to lie on the outside deck in the sun but should be allowed to come in when he is ready. He loves to drink water out of a water bottle, the faucet and eat the ice out of a cooler. Groovy is sweet, gentle, expressive, sensitive and follows instruction well. He sits for his dinner and treats, sits at the door before coming in and sits on the couch like a human. Groovy has had extensive training and knows how to co-exist in the family. We sent Groovy to an awesome trainer early on with an initial 10-day fulltime program and now this trainer is also our boarder for when we are out of town. He is exercised and walked 1-2 times a day for 20 min. to 1 hour each outing.

At night Groovy likes to sleep on the floor or a doggie bed, but will come in your bed unassumingly if you let him around 2-4 a.m. Groovy loves walks and is good on a leash. He can pass most all dogs without an issue but on occasion has been set off by a passerby’s dog which requires stern control. Groovy is awesome in the car both on long and short trips. He needs a little help getting in and then just settles right down.

Groovy’s housemates include two kitties which he pretty much leaves alone. He nuzzles the boy kitty with his big nose and thinks he might like to sniff the girl kitty until she tells him in kitty-speak to back-off. If we see a kitty on a walk he wags his tail and prances. He totally works with kitties. He also lived with an old greyhound mix for 3 yrs (which recently passed away) and Groovy was totally subservient to him. Groovy wanted to play with him but he was not interested and Groovy was very appropriate. Currently Groovy is with a 7-month old Golden/Collie mix and they love to play together.

It is hard to describe the nature of wonderful Groovy in a concise way. He is very sensitive; he does not understand yelling. He does understand firmness and consistency and scratches on his earlobes. He easily tolerates you brushing his teeth and trimming his nails but does not like a bath until the post part where you rub him with the towel. Overall he is a very easy dog to have around.

So, why would this wonderful dog be up for adoption?

Unfortunately Groovy bit the little girl next door. He was on a leash and in our driveway and all appeared normal. Groovy has been around many children at parks, in the neighborhood, on walks and in our home without incident. He has even had many positive encounters with this child petting him and loving on him. Unfortunately, something set him off that day and she was bitten in the face. (Possibly protecting our new dog as she went to pet him). Although she will be okay, we feel it is in Groovy and our best interest to re-home him. Groovy should no longer be around children. Although Groovy has had many positive leash-free outings at dog parks, to be on a safe side, we feel that he should always be on a leash and not spend time romping at a dog park.

Groovy’s basic needs: * Should be kept as an indoor pet * Should NOT have children nor allow Groovy to interact with children * Should have another gentle dog to play with * Should have a fenced yard * should gets lots of love and attention * Should get play time and exercise * should be in a home where the owner understands the demands of a large dog, the cost, the exercise requirements and the special needs described above.

We absolutely adore this dog and wish we did not have to let him go. Have lots of pics can send to you personally. My personal e mail is: [email protected]
