My Story

Gretchen is a beautiful older (perhaps 7-8 years old) female Shepherd mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 23, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who had found her on Hupp Road in the Beverly Ohio area on February 16th. That individual tried in vain to locate her owner with no success. Gretchen was wearing a collar but there was neither an ID tag nor a dog tag on her collar ... And she was not microchipped. Gretchen has a black short smooth coat with white markings on her chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with soulful copper-colored eyes, a slender muzzle, and large erect ears. The Good Samaritan noted that Gretchen was good with children as well as other dogs, but that she was NOT good with cats. Gretchen is housebroken. Gretchen appeared to have stiffness in her left leg (not specified if it was her front- or back leg). These photos were taken on February 23rd when HSOV Kennel Tech Kathryn Rea (Kat) accompanied Gretchen for outdoor photos on a warm sunny afternoon. This (possible senior citizen) had a sweet, gentle disposition and was a delight to photograph. She loved attention from Kat. Gretchen weighs 48 lbs and isn't a very large girl when you see her in person. She walked gently on a leash and was well-behaved for Kathryn Rea by her side. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Gretchen will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Since Gretchen was not reclaimed, she went home with a foster family on May 22, 2024 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed. Gretchen came back to HSOV on May 26, 2024 since she was a bit of an 'escape artist' (door dasher) and was experiencing some separation anxiety issues (and was fearful of being in a crate when left alone). Her foster family reported that Gretchen was super sweet, obeyed the leash, friendly, housetrained, and was a good bed buddy. UPDATE: Gretchen went home with a foster family on June 1, 2024 who planned to adopt her after she was spayed. Unfortunately Gretchen was returned on June 22, 2024 since she was an accomplished 'door dasher' who loved to pursue adventure by chasing outdoor critters (cats, squirrels, birds, etc). Gretchen got along with other dogs and was super playful indoors with her foster family. So Gretchen is once again looking for a loving home.
