My Story

Greta appears to be a pure bred Black and Tan GSD. She is small for breed. Greta is approx 9 months old. During the time Greta should have been rapidly growing herself, Greta was pregnant with the litter of 6 puppies posted as the "Country Singers Puppies".

Greta's Story:
A seemingly small for breed pure bred German Shepherd female was picked up "running loose" near a country road in Greenville, SC......This female who was "running loose" had a litter of 6 puppies approx 5 days old near by. Seems like Mama and puppies had been Dumped!

The Saturday that CSR went to the Greenville Shelter was the day that the Mama German Shepherd and her puppies were to die at the end of the day.

Two of the CSR gals went into the cell separately with the mama and pups. One remarkable thing was that the concrete floor was spotless. Mama was certainly keeping the area where she and her puppies were clean.

I had come for another young female German Shepherd Dog, not a mama and puppies. The young female I had come for had been adopted. This always makes me wonder, "Why then had I come?". I didn't want another mama and puppies, I already had 3 moms with puppies at home......as we went through the shelter I could not get the GSD mama and her puppies out of my mind and heart.....Neither could the other gal. She said she would take the mama and puppies.....I said, "No, they will be going home with me".

The puppies were put into a crate and carried through the shelter's long halls and out to my car.
Mama would not allow herself to go ahead of the crate. She followed the crate with her puppies inside. There was a look of sweet innocence about the way she followed the crate that made my heart cry......Were she not leaving the shelter with us, she would have followed the crate with her puppies into a room where death was waiting for them all!
The above events happened 8 or 9 weeks ago.

Greta was an excellent mother for her puppies.
She is still thin, however now that the puppies can be on their own and she has been spayed, Greta is beginning to gain weight . Even though she is protective of her personal bowl of food, Greta will sit with other dogs and gently take treats from my hand.

Greta is very comfortable in the house and as any good Shepherd, Greta wants to be near her people.
With the responsibilities of early motherhood, Greta is more calm and settled than most GSDs at 9 months.
Greta is very attentive and she has a strong desire to please. She is intelligent and should learn quickly.

Greta is gentle on lead and enjoys walks in the cool grass or just taking a nap in the sun on these Fall days.

Now is the time for Greta to have the opportunity to become that exceptional companion for her special person.

Greta will only be adopted into a family where the German Shepherd Dog is known and loved.
