My Story

Grace is a happy-go-lucky puppy, with the world at her feet. Every day is a new adventure to her – one to leap at wholeheartedly. She loves meeting new people and wiggles up to everybody for a bit of a belly rub. She can be a bit overwhelmed with new experiences, but with her person at her back, it takes her next to no time at all to absorb what is going on, figure out what her place is in it and charge forward to the next new thing. Grace is a very, very smart puppy and will grow up to be an exceptionally intelligent dog. Luckily, she also takes great delight in learning new tricks that will get her treats and praise. So far, in the last week and a bit, she has learned how to sit, lay down, stay, gimme 5 and gimme 10. In the right home, she would thrive on learning new things and figuring out new ways to please people. She would be fabulous at agility, flyball or any sport where her brain was kept as active as her body. However, if she doesn’t have enough stimulus or consistent leadership she will get into a world of trouble. She is not a ‘family dog’, that can be left in the background and walked occasionally – Grace is a full-time, devoted best friend that will give as good as she gets.
Gracie does best with a positive atmosphere. She has a puppy’s propensity for getting in trouble, but can be distracted in a heartbeat when given a different task. This is the key to living successfully with her. If she is doing something that you don’t like, simply call her to you and ask her to do something else and she is always happy to comply. She does have a stubborn streak a mile wide though, and if you try and force her into something she will refuse completely and totally and there is no pushing through it. Grace gets along well with other dogs and LOVES the dog that she is currently living with. She needs to go to a home with another submissive male dog as she thrives so greatly on the company. She is very dominant (even as a puppy) and would not tolerate living with another dominant female. She really needs to continue being well socialized and continue to interact with a LOT of positive dogs. Gracie is now about 12 weeks old and has been through two homes already, brought to a shelter and is now in a foster home. She needs to go to a home that totally understands what they are getting into, and are willing to commit to her for life –all of her life. She is an incredibly cute puppy – but she will grow up and come with all the complications of adolescence. She is actually a very good puppy in the house, is mostly housetrained and is pretty content to chew on the appropriate toys instead of household stuff. She does love to dig, loves to run 400 mph, and will bark like a fiend if ignored. On the plus, she is totally crate trained (for 8 hours a night – never during the day as she needs her exercise) and is going to day care 5 days a week to work on her socialization, manners and appropriate interactions with people and dogs. Gracie will be a fabulous dog in the right home, with experienced people. She is a dog that will continue pushing boundaries and testing the mettle of all that she interacts with. For the right family, this will be highly entertaining and make for a totally fun lifetime companion. In the wrong home it will lead, at best, to endless frustration on both sides. Gracie is a special dog that deserves truly special people that will see the joy in her heart, nurture her independent spirit and teach her all that she will need to know about living safely and happily. To learn more about Grace please call LAPS Boarding & Training Facility and ask to speak to Alicia. Please note Grace is in a foster home and only viewable by appointment. 604-851-6076
