My Story

Meet Goose.

Are you looking for a GREAT dog? Cute, smart, athletic, fun, super temperament, but beyond the puppy accidents and destruction? Goose might be your girl!

We believe that Goose is a German Wirehaired Pointer mix (or something similar). She looks like an Irish Wolfhound, but is not - she's way smaller. She is tall and long, very trim and athletic. She weighs 52 pounds. Goose has a wirey coat and a cute, scruffy face. She's about 3 or 4 years old. She has big ears like a pointer. She's black with white on her toes and chest. Goose is full of life.

Goose is a very sweet girl and has a very gentle nature. Goose is very polite and sits when she wants something. She takes treats gently. She follows her people around the house. Goose knows many commands: sit, stay, laydown, roll over, out of the kitchen, go potty and by my side sit. She also knows hand signals! What a smart girl!

Goose is very athletic and needs a home where she will get exercise. Goose loves other dogs and does well at the dog park. Like most dogs, she does better meeting dogs off leash than on leash, as being on leash changes dogs' body language and often makes them defensive. Goose is currently in a foster home with two other dogs - a male and a female. She gets along with them just great. Goose has gone with her foster family to Hondo dog park and has a great time! She got along with all of the other dogs. Her favorite thing was bouncing around and doing play bow with other dogs. She wasn't big into wrestling. She was probably one of the fastest dogs there, so it was great to see her run and stretch those legs.

Goose does well with children. She loves to interact with them and lick their faces. She has been very patient with small children following her around and doting on her. She doesn't jump on children, but like any happy dog who gets excited, might accidently knock over toddlers.

Goose walks well on leash and is a very good walking or jogging companion

Goose recently went off-leash hiking with her foster family in Forest Park. She loved it and it was fun to see her get a chance to sprint - she's FAST! She did well when we came across other hikers and dogs. She stuck close to the other dogs in the pack. Once she jumped right into the car when it was time to go home, but after another hiking trip, she didn't want to leave and played catch-me-if-you-can. Unfortunately, when Goose wants to keep going and keep exploring, that's what she does. She has a stubborn streak.

Right now, Goose cannot be trusted off leash in an unfenced area. Once she has bonded with her person, sees her person as her leader and knows that she's going to get plenty of exercise in the days ahead, we believe this will not be an issue. We can set Goose's adopter up with a trainer to work on this issue. Goose can get plenty of exercise with a jogger or walker who goes for longer distances or maybe has Goose wear a doggie back pack. Goose would also do well with a young playful dog as a doggie-sibling. For a couple of weeks there was a young lab puppy in her foster home and they had a wonderful time wrestling and playing.

Goose can be high energy, playful and go go go when it is play time, but she settles down and snoozes on a dog bed or plays with a toy when her person is just watching TV or on the computer.

Goose is crate trained. If she's bored, Goose will scale a fence to get out of the yard. So Goose needs a home with a secure yard (6 feet tall fenc) and should not be left outside when you're away. When her people are at work, Goose should be inside the house and could be crated. (This is our policy with all dogs.) Goose is housebroken. Goose is not destructive and so could just be left loose in the house with plenty of toys to play with. When her foster parents are away, Goose is sometimes crated and sometimes left loose in the house with the other dogs. She has done fine either way. At night, Goose is free to sleep where she choses and usually sleeps on a dog pillow in the bedroom or on the people-bed.

Goose sometimes barks to get your attention (more like a cross between a bark and a howl - arrroooroooroo!) or if she hears a noise outside and is protecting the house.

Goose cannot go to a home with cats, as she would love to hunt them.

If you have time for a smart and active dog, Goose would be a great best friend!

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.

All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email adoption organization") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)

Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?

What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)

What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?

Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?

Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?

Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)

Do you own or rent your home?

What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)

Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?

Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!
