6/2/10: Gep is SO HAPPY to be in a foster home in New England. This handsome lab mix loves all the wonderful human attention, going out for walks, and coming in for belly rubs. He's incredibly smiley and seems genuinely grateful to be out of the shelter. He weighs just about 50 pounds - a great size. This senior hopes to find a loving family with whom to spend his golden years.
Gep sleeps at night in his crate. Going in there isn't his favorite thing, but once settled inside he snoozes like a log! He wakes up, tail wagging and eager to follow his foster mom everywhere. He loves being brushed - so much that he goes weak in the knees during the process. He is learning his name and having fun eating treats for the first time in ages. Soft ones are his favorite. He's also grown attached to his new stuffed porcupine.
Gep gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home, and might enjoy a canine companion. He'd also probably do just fine as an only dog, especially if he could be with his people a lot.
He walks fairly well on a leash. He's out of practice but he doesn't pull too much.
His foster family had two kids visit the other day (ages 6 and 7) and he greeted them happily, tail wagging. His foster family doesn't have any children.
He has a sweet, kind soul who hopes to find people of his very own to love.
Prior notes: Gep had been in our partner shelter in Arkansas for about 5 years as of Spring, 2010. He is about 12 years old and is looking for the perfect retirement home.
At one time, Gep had a tumor removed from his face, but it was benign.
Gep loves attention and during his stay at the shelter, he sometimes visited the local retirement home for extra pats. He was a big hit with all the senior citizens!

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".
If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.
