George (Private ad

This is a private adoption that SOS posts as a courtesy. All follow ups need to be directed to the indicated party listed below description. George is a 3-year-old purebred Black Mouth Cur (recognized by UKC) approximately 80 lbs and is looking for a forever home. He was trained to protect a herd of sheep and lived outdoors in a barn, but his original owner became terminally ill and could no longer care for him. George was then taken to the Medina Animal Shelter, which is where I adopted him in June. After living outdoors, he was a bit undomesticated when we took him in. However, he was immediately house broken, trained to sleep in a crate at night & walks well on a leash. He has been neutered and is up-to-date with shots and heartworm/flea/tick medication. George is extremely intelligent & good-natured, yet high energy which means he requires daily walks for exercise. He could be a fantastic jogging companion! The reason I'm looking for a home for George is because he has displayed aversion/aggression toward my husband. He is perfectly fine with myself, my 6-year-old son and any other person he has encountered - he has NEVER bit anyone. According to the dog behaviorist we have seen, he is a "textbook alpha male" and views my husband as "competition" so he attempts to intimidate him. With that being said, the ideal home situation for George would be either on another farm or with a female with/without child(ren) household.
