My Story

Gentle Bear is a 13 month old big super uber mellow fellow baby mixed breed boy, who found himself in trouble when he took too much interest in a pot bellied pig. His former owner surrendered him to the shelter in Shasta County because of this. Bear is very big -prob 100 lbs+. He is not as big as an average Mastiff, but not too far behind in size. He gets along with other dogs very well, and shows no aggression what so ever when in a group of dogs. He calmly stands for sniffing, and is accepting. He shows no desire for domination with other males, however he may stand up for him self if another dog challenges him too much. He is learning about how to fit his big ole goofy self in smaller areas in the house. All this is of course in his favor! However, he has a very high prey drive, and should not be anywhere near livestock, or small mammals(rabbits chickens etc) without supervision and a leash. He is responding to corrections however, and I am able to redirect his attention after a few corrections. Unsure of cats, but am told he lived with an indoor cat.... Since he is still young, he can prob be taught about these issues in a new home. He is friendly to strangers, and loves to be petted. Bear is his given name by former owner. He does not appear to have been taught how to walk on a leash, but has been quickly learning and picking up what the rules are here, and how to behave when on a leash. In a car, he rides well, but because he is still like a puppy, he should not be left alone unsupervised, as he may be destructive. I think Bear would make an excellent family pet, and esp one with children since he is so agreeable. He is playful. While crated, he has never had any accidents, and his bladder is phenominal in the ability to hold it for long periods. He will tell you he needs to potty. Call or email for more info.
