My Story

** this dog is being fostered in Quakertown PA and has had a release from the vet . please see the photo of his rough start. ** Gavin was picked up at the KY Welcome Rest Area Center on July 7,2008 and had been there for the fourth of July weekend. We figured that someone had dropped him there because they could no longer care for him and his medical problem. Gavin had 4 external pins in his right rear leg that had been a surgery that had gone bad. Gavin only weighed 54# and very thin, hungry and scared. When I approached Gavin he just layed there. I put a leash around him to take him to my vehicle and as we walked away from the spot that he had been laying at all morning he stopped and turned to look back as to say "I guess my owner is not coming back for me. I cried like a baby as I am doing now just thinking back about that day. I often wondered what he was thinking when he turned to look back. He has had the best care that he so deserved. We fed him small amounts of food every hour during the day until he finally started leaving food in his dish several days later. We gave him Distemper-Parvo and Bordatella along with Panacur wormer for three days. Gavin is also Neutered now and current on Rabies and Heartworm Negative. The surgery was not a successful surgery that had been done on Gavin before we received him and the pins were removed and Gavin stayed on antibiotics for 8 weeks hoping that we would be able to save his leg from the bone infection that he had. After 8 weeks of antibiotics we were able to save the leg and he has bone calcification from the prior bone surgery. The old injury does not stop him from playing and running with other dogs. Gavin loves to play fetch and does great with my small dogs and cats. Gavin is not food aggressive after all that he has been through. He loves attention and loves to play with toys. It is funny to watch him play by himself with a stuff toy by throwing it in the air repeatedly. Gavin needs a dog to play with that is his own size or one that doen't mind rough play. He plays Catahoula rough. Vocal, rough play. You are not obligated to any dog but it is a good preliminary step to see if Gavin is a match for your household and life. Thanks!
