My Story

If you're looking for a sassy cat in a dog's body, Freya may be your girl. This 5 year old, 25 pound herding dog-chihuahua mix loves hanging out with her humans, especially if she can play fetch or go on an adventure with them. She's always excited to go for a walk, hike, or car ride, and has done great at restaurants and busy events as long as she's given a little bit of space (and plenty of treats). She typically doesn't pay attention to other cats, squirrels, deer, or other dogs while she's on leash. At home, Freya is extremely low-maintenance. She loves her crate but is also trustworthy enough to leave out during the day. She listens when she's told not to chew on something, and will stay off of furniture when asked. She loves to chew on bones, balls, and rope toys. Freya needs a patient family who will give her time to build trust, continue her training, and will set her up for success (bonus points if you've had herding dogs in the past). She's very food-motivated and is smart enough to learn anything, but her original owners didn't do her any favors. I suspect their kids were allowed to mess with her so she'll need a home without young kids. While Freya has lived with a number of other dogs in her foster home, she would be happiest as an only-dog. It's likely that she'd be ok in a home with cats. Freya is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and is heartworm negative. Please reach out by emailing [email protected] if you're interested in meeting Freya!
