My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat or an in person meet and greet. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Fred, 1 years old (estimated DOB July 2023) , neutered male, black labrador/dane mix, currently 67 pounds. Fred is in a foster home in foster home in Painted Post, NY and is ready for meet and greets! Fred and his sister were impounded to the county shelter when their dad, who was experiencing homelessness, was arrested. The siblings were cleared for euthanasia after just two days but thankfully, we happened to see them marketed and were able to save both. Fred is a resilient young guy - he's been in two foster homes since being pulled from the shelter and is still as happy-go-lucky as you could ever hope a dog would be. Fred loves playing and romping around, enjoys giving kisses, belly rubs, and taking all of the tasty snacks you can offer. While Fred will undoubtedly need continued work on his house manners, he is crate trained, mostly house broken and does well on a leash. Adopters should expect some potential for regression with the change in his routine and structure. He will need additional leash training but gentle correction and positive reinforcement go a long way with his gentle demeanor. Fred has been around kids and other dogs, and has a bubbly, effusive personality. He is very sweet and good-natured, and gives "I want to be friends with everyone" vibes. We think he would do best with another dog in the home but do not have any history with cats. Fred is going to be a large dog once fully grown: he is currently 67 pounds and just 9 months old, so we anticipate his full grown weight around 75-80 pounds. While Fred has been around kids without any issue, we would typically suggest homes with kids over the age of 10yrs or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. Structure and routine go long ways in establishing good house manners. For puppies this age, someone needs to be home more than they are away as crating them for long periods of time is not conducive for their developmental needs. If you work outside of the home for 6 hours or more, please specify on the application who will be with the puppy during the time you are away. The ideal home would be one that is excited for the joys and challenges that come with raising a puppy, one who will provide training and structure. Training can be self taught or through the use of professional resources. A home that understands there is a lot of learning for a young dog and is wiling to be patient through the process. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him?
