My Story

My name is Franklin and I’m ADORABLE! I’m also looking for my forever home. I’m just a baby – not even 1 y.o., but some things I know: I’m smart, curious, energetic, vocal, stubborn and I love to be with people! I weigh 14 lbs now and I live with my foster family in central, IL. I’m not skittish - I’m a typical crazy Shiba puppy with lots of energy and opinions. I have a high prey drive and I love chasing rabbits in the fenced yard. I love playing with toys and going for walks and sniffing everything. I’m learning to walk politely on leash and not zig-zag or get too excited when I see people and dogs. Since I’m young, my forever home will need to commit to continuing training so I can become a well-mannered adult. Foster mom says that I love the sound of my own voice. I guess that’s a nice way of saying that I can be loud. I’m not a fan of being left alone and when foster mom puts me in my crate I throw a little tantrum until I tucker myself out. (Have you heard a Shiba scream? Google it.) Because I’m vocal, living in an apartment or home that shares walls is not ideal. I’d love a forever family where the people will play with me and keep me company. I’d get along with another active dog, and it would be great to have a friend to play with. I do well with the teenagers who live here, but I might be too loud and rambunctious for small kids. Did I mention that I’m smart?! Foster mom says I’m a quick learner when treats are involved. I'm getting the hang of potty training and it only took one treat for me to learn “sit!” And I know how to wait at the door until foster mom says I can go outside. I haven’t been around cats or small pets, but with my high prey drive, it's likely not a good match. I am a healthy boy – vaccinated and neutered. I was born with a grade 4 heart murmur, caused by a VSD (small hole in my heart). The vet told my foster mom that it shouldn’t prevent an active, happy and long life, but I will need regular follow ups with a veterinary cardiologist for monitoring. If you live in the Midwest and want to be my best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA get to know you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they'll connect you with my foster mom so we can meet!
