My Story

Age - 8 years old Breed - Lab / Terrier mix Size - 55-65 pounds (42' crate) Origin - NC/King George Low noise factor Health concerns - Treated for Lymes disease, Pretreated and currently on slow kill for Heartworm until he is heavier and we will consider with vet input fast kill. Had happy tail on intake, but tail has healed. Basics - Ferdi is Kid friendly, Cat friendly, and Dog friendly! He will occasionally grumble at rude adolescent or adult dogs, but gets along with everyone who is nice to him! His ideal home would let him cuddle with them and sun himself in the yard. He is lower energy, and pretty well behaved on leash, he knows sit and down, but does not always feel it is worth it to engage in those foolish behaviors! This boy sleeps with the kitties, and puppies, and has taken to nurturing and parenting the younger pups in puppy play (6 months and under). Exclusions - none at this time. Backstory - Ferdi was adopted from us back in 2015 as a puppy, and he was raised with his favorite human kids. When his family split up we lost touch with that half of the family until we got an unexpected call from King George Animal Control that they had possession of a dog of ours, we were so confused and asked for more details.... As soon as a description and timeline were given we KNEW. We immediately began working to retrieve him, as well as reached out to the owners ex-wife as to why he was stray in a shelter. She informed us it was impossible because her ex husband had informed them a week prior the dog had died in his kennel of Lymes disease.... We sent photos and confirmed it was the same dog. The former owner had told his children not only the dog was dead, but offered them his ashes . When Ferdinand was found he was 38 pounds (in 2017 he was 66!!!) and he had a severe case of happy tail (end of his tail split open and bleeding) and BOTH Lymes and Heartworm!!! We have been building his weight back up and he is ready to find a foster or adopter of his very own!!
