My Story

Ernest is a male basset-mix from Douglas County shelter. Ernest is tan & white and seems to be about 4 years old. My goodness, this dog has all the positive qualities of the basset and the pointer we guess he is - with none of the bad! He is calm, submissive to the other dogs without cowering. He will stand up for himself if attacked but has never drawn blood - he just tries to defend and get away. Ernest is eager to please, has none of the subborn "I'll do it my way" of the basset, and learns something the FIRST time - obeys "sit", "down", "stay", "off", "quiet", and "go to your bed". He came to BHRG with an injured hind leg which he refused to use. He had therapy and is now using the leg. He is a gentleman car rider (prefering to ride "shotgun" in his doggie seatbelt) and enjoys spending time in his crate (see photos). Ernest likes to go for aerobic walks. He definitly has "sight hound" in him since he can stare you into a dog treat or an early dinner in no time. Ernest does have a mischievious streak because he loves to hide toys and bones from the other dogs. There is not a malicious bone in his body.
