Location: RI
This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Emma is a sweet girl who someone left tied to a fence of an animal shelter. Now, she is looking for a special home that can give her the love and security she needs to become her best self.
We think she is about 7 years old and has all the good qualities of an adult dog.
Emma, who was previously at a shelter before being transported to RI, has had limited exposure to people and pets. However, she has shown tolerance and playfulness with dogs and remains calm when meeting new canine friends. So far with her Rhode Island foster she is doing great and acclimating to home life. She might act a bit shy at first but give her a little time and she will be your new best friend. She can jump out of excitement when greeting people she knows.
She is affectionate, intelligent, outgoing, even-tempered, gentle, and eager to please. These characteristics lead us to believe that she will do well in a household that provides her with consistency and stability. She would do best in a low key and predictable environment without a lot of foot traffic. She would do best in a home without young children, although visiting kids could be fine.
Emma's favorite activities include playing with squeaky and chew toys, going for walks, and most of all, cuddling and lap time. Her love for cuddling is a testament to her affectionate nature.
She absolutely loves spending time outdoors whether on walks or hanging in the yard. She walks well on a leash.
Poor Emma is absolutely terrified of storms and may try to hide or escape when she hears them. Her caretakers are currently medicating her when they know a storm is coming, which takes the edge off. They also put her in a room where she cannot hear the storm very well and play calming music for her. It helps if you can stay with her, too.
Emma is house trained, with regular trips outside as well as clean in her crate. She has also been left free roaming in the home alone for several hours without destruction. We strongly advise training for Emma (and all dogs) to help her bond with you, follow instructions, and build confidence. A trained dog is so much easier to live with!
While we don't know much about Emma's history, we do know she will be a great family member for a person or persons who are willing to love her and help her when things get noisy and scary. Are you ready to be Emma's BFF? She's ready to be yours!

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
