My Story

This is tiny and very sweet little Emily. Her story is heartbreaking to say the least- the tale of her rescue is included below.

Emily is between and year and a year and a half. She is fully grown and only weighs 32 pounds. She is shy, quiet, and rather reserved, patiently sitting and absorbing her surroundings in any new situation. She is learning to walk on leash, having to be retrained that she will not be hurt after having lived her short life on the end of a chain. She already seems to be housebroken, doesn't mind the foster family's cats or others dogs, and enjoys the comfort of her crate. She has another pit bull buddy who towers over her- that's how small she is! She is kid, cat, and dog friendly. Truly, we are hoping she can go to a home with another dog.

She is going to take some time to come out of her shell and trust again- she is so loving and snuggles already, proving that she is going to make a wonderful companion to some lucky person. There has been zero sign of aggression.

Here is the full story of the 27 dogs who needed rescue:

LOESS HILLS PITS- These dogs are a very unfortunate story. One of the animal control officers from the Loess Hills Humane Society found 27 pit bulls chained to car axles buried in the ground, and to each other, in an old field. The conditions were horrible, and many of the dogs had their legs broken and teeth removed for breeding purposes, which is why they were chained together. All of them were sick with intestinal parasites, along with many other conditions. Two of them were so sick with pneumonia that they had to be euthanized right away because of their suffering. Personally, when I went to see them for the first time it was the worst thing I have had to see with my time in rescue. Amazingly, the remaining dogs have all come around nicely. Many of them LOVE the company of other dogs, and despite what they have been through, want to be around people. We have worked very hard to keep these dogs alive and fought very hard to give them a chance to experience a life full of love and security.....a life where they can be a dog. The man who did this to them has been charged with 3 counts of torture and 24 counts of animal cruelty.
