My Story

Are you looking for a fun loving dog who can alternate between hiking buddy and movie night couch companion? Are you a sucker for a cute face? Do you want a furry friend who will quickly settle into a new home as if he's been there his whole life? If you answered yes to any of these, Elton is your guy! Elton has hung out in a foster home to get a break from the shelter and has been an absolute dream. He has two foster sisters and easily learned their ways and the household routines. He is totally housebroken and will sleep in his crate after just a little coaxing. But his absolute favorite thing is sleeping on the couch. Forwards, backwards, right-side up and upside down. Give him a couch and a pillow and he will get comfortable and watch over the house activity. He won't even care what's on the TV. Elton loves to go places with his people and walks great on a leash with no pulling. He rides calmly in the car and might even fall asleep. Elton is still learning a few basic manners but takes correction easily. A quick spritz from the water bottle will get the point across. He also takes correction from other dogs well as he gets used to their personalities, too. So why is this gem of a dog still at the shelter after 9 long months? Well, Elton has one trait that might turn you off in a shelter environment. He barks when you meet him. He barks a lot at the shelter. Away from the shelter in his foster home? He barks when he's excited, like when his people come home. Once he calms down he doesn't bark. His barking is actually a sign of joy! You're home! It's playtime! We are at a new park! Look - there's a deer! So should you meet Elton at the shelter, he's excited to be out of his kennel and meeting people. He's going to bark. Look beyond that and you'll see a very good boy who is capable of living a quiet, comfortable life with you. His perfect home would have someone to take him on walks and hikes and another playful dog to help burn off some energy. After all, he's still young and energetic. He loves other dogs but can be a little shy around new people so children need to just move gently with him. He's around 40 pounds and about 2.5 years old. A nice size and out of the puppy stage. Come meet this special boy before someone else beats you to it!
