My Story

ELPHABA Elphaba has jumped on to the yellow brick road, dock-tailed it out of OZ and has arrived at the Batavia Dober-Lounge! Elphie is a beautiful 8 month old red female Doberman Pinscher that was taken to the shelter along with her sister, Nessa Rose. It was reported they were out of control and too much to handle. Often times we find this to be true when Dobes are left to think and fend for themselves with no structure to their lonely days. Hence, the two beautiful but completely undisciplined sisters began their journey to start their transformation from absolutely "wicked" behavior to acceptable adolescent puppy hood. Nessa Rose has found her forever home and now we are going to help Elphie find her very own Wizard! Elphie is very sweet and very affectionate and great with her foster siblings - numerous dogs of assorted shape and size. While she has not been cat tested, we strongly suspect Elphie's prey drive is high enough to warrant her a no-can-do-cat status. She has discovered the basket of dog toys and is thrilled to play like the typical 8-month-old she is. We often find that she shares her toys with the other dogs and most recently watched her chew one end of a rather large Kong toy while another dog gnawed on the opposite end. We are excited to report that our Dober-lady in waiting has successfully completed the first leg of her journey - she is reliably house trained, crate trained, and has a wonderful grasp of appropriate manners becoming those of a good little witch! Elphie is entering her Dober-teen years and is beginning to display a Doberman attitude. By this we mean she is bright and bold and very proud of herself whenever she does what she is asked to do. She displays no hesitation to alert us when a stranger approaches the house. She has quite a keen sense of herself and is everything we happen to appreciate and admire about the female gender of this breed. Elphie's environment is very structured while she is in Dober-Boot-Camp and her forever home will be required to continue her training and education. A fenced yard is an absolute requirement because we sure don't want Elphie to take off for Kansas! We are looking for a family with a lot of love and patience and the experience necessary to continue Elphie's training program. Elphie is an active teenager (she can defy gravity!) and we will not consider placing her in a home with children under the age of 10. Are you willing to be Elphie's head coach? Elphaba has the brains, heart and courage of her ancestors. She is one awesome wicked little witch and with continued guidance and tutoring, it won't be long before she will be known as the "most accomplished little witch in Illinois"! If you would like additional information about Elphaba, the first step is to complete an adoption application which can be found at www.ildoberescue.com . Then you may contact foster folks Bill & Kathy Williams at [email protected] or by calling 630.761.4492. Elphie looks very elegant wearing her new Dober Duds collar and leash, thanks to a generous donation from former IDR+ orphan Isabella and her new brother, Thor
