My Story
Eloise is a beautiful and blossoming young standard poodle mix who came to Murci's Mission as a stray after being found unconscious and hours from death, emaciated and encapsulated in a thick layer of matted and debris filled hair. She has an estimated birthday of 07/10/2023.
After a lengthy hospital stay, Eloise was able to make a full recovery, and it seems as though she will have no lasting negative health repercussions from her brush with death. She is good with dogs, cats, and kids, although she will be initially shy when encountering something new due to her limited social exposure. Eloise will require professional grooming at a maximum interval of every 8 weeks at an estimated cost of $120 per visit. If this is not attainable, she is not the right match.
Eloise is learning leash manners, is crate trained, and is working on her potty training skills. She is set to be spayed on 08/27 and can go home on or after that date.
Eloise comes spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed. Her adoption fee is $200 and includes her leash, collar, ID tag, food sample, and medical records. To be considered to adopt, please begin by visiting www.murcismission.org and sending in an application.
Please remember that Eloise is a victim of careless breeding practices, and her predicament originated with a person who valued money over life. There is no ethical reason for creating mixed breed dogs, and if you are considering purchasing a puppy, it is your job to ensure that the parent dogs have undergone basic health testing, such as eye and cardiac exam, hip and elbow radiographs, genetic testing through embark or UC Davis, the puppy should already be microchipped at the time of purchase, and you should be required to sign a contract including a clause that indicates the breeder will take the dog back should you be unable to continue care for any reason. If you accept anything less from a breeder, you are funding unethical breeding practices that put innocent lives like Eloise in peril, and you are complicit in the careless cycle of profit based animal sales that perpetuates the need for animal shelters and rescues.
Take a stand and commit to shopping or adopting mindfully and keeping shelters clear of unwanted animals who don't have alternative support systems.
