Elmo (ADopted!)

This is Elmo. He is a cute five year old gold and white Shih-tzu. Elmo came into rescue because his owner wasn't able to devote enough time to him. Elmo has a very sweet personality and loves to greet anyone who visits with tail wags and a hop up in the lap. He is crate trained and house trained. And when it's time to go outside, he will diddle and fiddle around the yard until he's forced to come back in. Of course, you'd better have his treat ready when he get's inside. Elmo was used to having a cat of his own, so he would do good in a family with a cat. He would also do well with another small dog, or just human companionship. He will attach himself to his human(s) and will follow where ever you let him. He doesn't have to be in your lap, but he is always close at hand. Elmo needs and wants someone who will give him all the love and attention he deserves. In return, he will give his undivided affections and attention. He will be very a very loyal companion to his human(s). Due to having treated several heartworm positive dogs recently, we DO require past proof of h/w tests & preventative given if you own a dog. We do NOT consider it proof if you have just had the h/w test done or bought preventative for the first time prior to or after putting in an application.

Out of the Area? We will gladly do a "long distance" adoption, however we do not ship our dogs. We expect you to come and pick up your dog. As all our dogs are in foster homes in different places, that would mean you would need to travel to the foster home to pick up the dog (not necessarily in St Louis). Family members or friends are not allowed to pick up the dog unless the adopter is with them. We will not consider an adoption out of area without a vet and groomer reference.

We do not place dogs in homes with toddlers and babies. Please read the shelter home page for placement restrictions prior to submitting an application. Our group does have a policy of only placing dogs in homes where all pets are spayed or neutered.

Our Adoption fees are based on the age of the dog and range from $350 to $200 each, and are used to pay the vet expenses. All dogs are up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed or neutered and any known problems are treated before they can be adopted. Last year our vet bills were $3000. higher than our adoption fees, so we are not able to adopt dogs without an adoption fee.
