My Story

Ellie May is approximately 3 years old in these pictures taken June 24, 2010. She is a pretty little thing that is a little shy at first but she soon warms up to after she has been introduced to you.

This is what her foster / rescuer has to say about Ellie May:
I found Ellie when I was driving through in Missouri She was wandering in the road and I stopped to get her. She came right to me and I put her in my car where she curled up in my back seat and slept. She was skin and bones and full of ticks and fleas. Ellie is a little skittish with loud noises (especially thunderstorms) and anytime you raise your arms above your head...poor baby. But she is very friendly with people and gets along great with other dogs. She has only seen a cat twice since I've had her, and she howled both times at it (she was on a leash), so I wouldn't say she was that fond of them. Ellie is a very sweet and pretty calm dog. I've been keeping her in our laundry room, but when I do let her roam in the house, she is very curious and has to sniff everything. She has gone to the bathroom in the house a few times, so she isn't 100% house broken. Ellie May has only been inside on and off b/c it's been so hot. With a little TLC and basic training, Ellie May would be an awesome house dog.

About the only problem with Ellie May is that she is possessive with her rawhide. It is literally the only thing she is possesive about. My dogs know better and stick with their own rawhides. She stops chewing when I get near her and only really growls when I pet her with the rawhide in her possession. I can even take her bone (hollow marrow) out of her mouth and she doesn't fuss at all. And when they get treats, they all get them at the same time and no one growls.

With food, I put my hand in her bowl and move it on her while she's eating and she just moves with the bowl. No growling at all. In fact, my dogs are more alpha when it comes to dinnertime and she doesn't seem to mind when they growl b/c she's jumping around while I'm getting their dinner ready. I make sure they all eat in fairly close proximity to one another and when one is done, they wait their turn to sniff the other's bowl after they finish. She is usually the last one to get done and doesn't seem to mind my dogs hovering near her. Mealtime is a pretty civil event at our house, especially with her.

Ellie May is up-to-date on her shots, spayed, and is Heartworm negative. She is on HW preventative and weighed 42 pounds at the vet. Vet says she needs to gain a few more pounds.
